Anyone have experience with this? I am about to pull the trigger and spend about $20k. Insurance doesn't cover it, but luckily I can afford it. I'm 39, hoping to stay more active than most people for a long time.
In simple terms they use a needle to re-inflate and seal the discs in the back.
I keep leaking fluid out of my 2 bottom discs. I can't ride. Coughing actually blew my discs out twice. I worked my ass off since November working around the injury, and got into pretty good shape by spring. Rode for about a month this spring and felt great initially. I kept getting worse slowly. I think the high impacts from riding kept making my discs leak a little, and I got to the point where I can't ride again.
Then I got a cold, coughed in the middle of the night and kaboom! Bad shape again.
Anyhow I'm leaning 90% towards this Discseel procedure, and 10% towards whatever the normal doctors are going to tell me. I know a guy who golfs, and used to race MX who had this done in 2019. He does HVAC work on his own and is pretty good. He highly recommends Discseel.
Trucking, working on trucks, and MX is not easy on the back and got me here. I want to be able to workout 6 days a week, ride, work, run, mountain bike, and play with my kids. Being a couch potato is not an acceptable option for me.
Looking for advice from those with disc problems and experience with procedures.
I never heard of that procedure. I broke my back in 96 on the hhg rig. Chunks of bone stuck in nerves& spinal cord. I had every procedure you could think of. Then back surgery in 10-2-02. I think it was 3 bulging disk against nerves too. They cut the bulge off & reinsert disk. I hv calf & leg cramps real bad since . It was good for years. The last few real bad again. In 2020 4-21 to Labor Day pt bs and prescription drugs, no pain killers tho. 96-2002 I had large bottles of pain killers with 4 refills. It helps take the edge off the nerve pain. Now you get no pain killers in there pain management bs program. I hv 10 destroyed disk , a couple bulging disk, lower disk r bone on bone. Etc. all disk in neck r blown. MRI showed the lowers ones paper thin. I said ok remove them & install the plastic or steel ones you,ve been doing for 20+ yrs. He said we don’t do that anymore etc. The 2 hospital networks in Green Bay say they don’t do disk replacements anymore. They say get a different job, haha. I spent ovr 200 k everything I had saved from the 90,s. In 2020 to 2024 may aprox 200k again. I,m 2 1/2 in shorter in a few months from beater 1099 trks. Trks slam your butt on the flour 6-8 times super hard in a second. I got stingers a white flash quite a few times . And legs went totally numb. All my disk in my neck r blown . People don’t realize how bad the trucks r today . I would give anything to drive a R model spring ride trk again. Or physical a old timer with 38 yrs exp at sisco - food delivery co. I asked him when I delivered there. Do you think I can do this job ? Etc he paused and I said too tall ? He said yup. He saw well ovr 100 NFL players get injured bad and never return to work because there bodies r destroyed. I did trk & hvy equipment repairs 1985 to 2002 . I still do a lot of repairs. It all tears your body up. I had a couple epidural injections at the hospital that helped. And a lot that didn’t. They hv problems now because they can’t get a needle in because it’s too narrow. So I,m suffering pretty bad. It’s hard to breath some days. I had my disk slide out in slow motion already. I,m yelling no,no . My belly button was pointed at my rt hip for weeks. It’s not just the back it’s the butt, crotch, it band more painful than a broken femur, your knee worse than a blown out knee, alll ligaments, muscles to your foot. Which is 99 % numb. Not much I can do in the trk for months at a time but suffer in pain. I hv a ymca membership on time off I do a lot of stretching, pool, whirlpool, sauna. If my back is ok I do different styles of speed sit-ups. I can do that for a hr , crazy high intensity. I,m not ovr wt but it takes wt off real fast . Pig out after 10pm & your still loosing wt. I think that’s important keep your wt down . Less wt easier on a bad back , knees etc. sit ups I think get blood flow going better for your lower back. Sorry you hv to go threw the back hell stuff E Man. If I could I would smoke a tiny bit of weed but can’t with the drug test. And it just doesn’t fit this job at all. 4-+ kinds of epson salts from Walmart works better than whirlpool , or pool. 1 hr 10 min hot as you can stand it. Safe the water & next morning dump ice . I,ve done that for 8 hrs not straight of course. When I get off the rd. Stay in the tub until your body is freaking out . Get out dry off get body temp up . And go again. That’s extreme but it works. I hate fuckin rip off clinics .
My last option for my back medically is fusion of my L5-S1. I am trying to avoid that and have been searching alternatives. So many scams out there. Decompression therapy was the last one I looked at. They wanted to know my credit score during the pre-screening. I tried the stem cell thing too with no relief.
My MRI;
FINDINGS: Scoliosis and advanced multilevel degenerative disc
disease. Conus medullaris and cauda equina are normal. Moderate
central and left lateral recess at L1-L2 stenosis. Moderately severe
central stenosis at L3-L4 and right foraminal narrowing here also
moderately severe.
Severe central L4-L5 stenosis and right foraminal disc herniation.
Also severe L5-S1 central canal and bilateral foraminal stenosis.
A few people local to us have had good luck with the discseel. I know a few people who haven't been happy with normal surgeries, and one who is happy. If the $20k price means no new bikes for a couple years so be it. Otherwise I can barely ride.
Ask for a microdiscectomy and then try the other options. I always had a bad back and accelerated degenerative discs as most of us do. Then I broke my back and burst 2 disc's and bulged multiple disc's. L3 was fracture all the way across and a large chunk of bone was lodged in nerve that had to be removed and the doc asked if i ever walked because i shouldn't have been able. I couldn't walk. After microdiscectomy my back was fixed and even my lifelong issues. There is animations of the minimumly invasive surgery online. I think Spine institute of America or similar has them.

Mr. Moran: have you seen an orthopedic surgeon? I had two lanimectomies in ‘22 due to similar circumstances. Your insurance may cover the procedure but it could require a peer-to-peer consult between your surgeon and the insurance company’s rep (who is typically also a surgeon).
Years ago I had L5-S1 tilf.
last May I had a micro on L4-5 which did nothing. Last Dec I had L4-5 fusion with hardware. For 5 months i was like new back to playing hockey. Recently that all failed. Now L3-4 is blown out because of L4-5 being stable because of the screws and rods below. Was scheduled for L3-4 for july 10 ive decided to wait and see how things progress. Im just not sure that more rods and screws will help in fact it may place more strain on the disc above to fail and so on. Still playing hockey but at an old mans broken pace. Good luck
I have a bulging disc in my lower back as well..... last time I had a flare up it was so bad I couldn't sit when I used the bathroom, had to hold myself up.
I use an inversion table regularly , it's the one thing that keeps me feeling good.
That was me last week. Rode June 1st, back still hurts. Made friends with a neurosurgeon here who looks after me. I’m a candidate for a fusion but he says thats a last ditch resort. Gotta keep working on core strength for now and hope it gets better 🤷♂️
That is why I am avoiding the fusion.
I heard that table works. I tried everything including crazy stuff like horse Ben gay I call it. It’s for horses that injured there upper leg muscles or ligaments. Super powerful cream I was soo lucky I was home and not on a job site . When I rubbed it all ovr my back, butt cheek & leg. A couple minutes later my skin turned bright red and burned worse than fire I swear . Probably because it was deep into the skin. I ran into the shower yelling scrubbed for a 1/2 hr b4 the burning went away. Vioxx was great maybe the most powerful antiflamatory drug ever. Bad side effects like massive sweating , hair falling out , vision with millions of black dots. My last race I fractured my femur . When I got home from a 3+ hr drive my leg was swelled up big. I ate solid food & took vioxx & layed a 8 lb bag of ice on it. I didn’t go to the dr for 4 days. Ryno used vioxx to race with a freshly broken lower leg. I never tried hot needling a rn nurse at the y said it works great. The gal is a couple towns away tho. The 2 major hospital networks want her . But she doesn’t agree with current medical policies etc. like ripping people off and doing procedures just for profit. No done lts just 1 ambient & a lt I bought at Walmart. I can barely see my phone. It’s starting to weird me out it’s like being in cave. New Orleans & Ms. Monsoon rains it was dark during daylight today. My wiper fell off on the drivers side the last 30 mi.
I have an inversion table which helps once I get good enough to use it. The surgery stories are all over the place with results on here, and with people that I personally know. I also live in an area where generally people go elsewhere for anything major. I have only heard good things about the discseel. A few friends of friends had success. My HVAC guy up the road was in worse shape than me and can do installs in screwed up spaces again since getting the discseel in 2019.
At this point I just started riding a bicycle last night, but the physical therapist said no jumps or jarring tree roots. Just smoother trails. That's after a whole month of physical therapy. The last time it took over 3 months to get there.
Back in November I could sit on the pot very uncomfortably, no way could I hold myself up. I couldn't use the extra muscles that help to poop. Just had to sit there and let it go pretty much on it's own. It was kinda shitty. At first first my wife had to help me in and out of bed, chairs, and vehicles for about a week. Then I could do it barely, and slowly improved.
Well if you are at the point of constant pain numbness to the toes with foot drop then getting the fusion is needed to stabalize the discs. Im happy with my L4-5 fusion even knowing hinging would occur with the next upper disc.
Totally been there with alllll of that It's the worst. People who don't understand how disc injuries work won't get it, they always think its a muscle issue, not that the injury takes away the ability for your muscles to work.
I'd use the ole , roll to my knees to get out of bed.
If it wasn't for inversion I feel like my healing would take much , much longer.
I roll my back on a big exercise ball. Really helps to open up things.
I have been dealing with the numbness for years. The past year it has been the sciatica. It feels like someone is driving a hot poker into my hip.
I don't know if you've been to physical therapy. NovacareErie south location at the 505/97 split just north of the casino is pretty good. Specifically Amanda does a hell of a good job.
Did you tell them anything riding motocross? I'm half assed afraid to tell them anything about riding motocross, but at the same time I don't want a treatment that won't work due to the high impacts we take sometimes
Oh that’s the area you live in. I looked up your town a few months ago , it wasn’t in the atlas index. I,m broke down again trk in shop mechanic gave me a ride. Emissions shit trk derated 55mlh top speed trk barely runs. The people you say it worked . How bad was there condition ? I think everyone,s back is different, posture for example. My back surgeon said I,ll get the disability paperwork completed for ya . You,ll never be able to work again. 5 months later after working my azz off to get better. I was windmill dunking repeatedly. And pulling a tanker . He quit being a surgeon rt after me and became an attorney. There’s a huge shortage of back surgeons , too many lawsuits. Hospitals networks share back surgeons . My family never stopped by to see me after surgery. I had a up stairs apt at the time , intercom like Steinfield , in door pool, sauna, fitness room, etc. I couldn’t get down the stairs to get my mail. A gorgeous college girl named Robin helped me out. I think every back injury is diff and surgery. After surgery 1 thing is when the dr says it’s ok to stretch and how far. I was fighting for my life and freedom . So I worked 7 days a week at it. I joined the ymca because they had stuff to strech, etc. . I nearly blacked out from pushing it stretching .
Pit Row
I have been to several in the area, most recently UPMC. They have someone that use the Schroth method for scoliosis patients. That helped for a bit, but I am back to where I started. looking at this place in Canada now. https://www.mobilitymedclinic.com/
I had every issue written here. It fealt like a blowtorch on my hip. I have been told by a doctor that when I wake up from surgery prepare for the worst pain a man can feel after shattering feet and it was crazy. But my back was way worse. The microdiscectomy was the best thing I ever did. Woke up with zero pain and it was a 10 before surgery and could not walk. I paid a crew to put a roof on a shed I had and paying by hour. They were slacking so a few days after surgery against recommendations I threw 10 4x8 sheets of ply up there on them to show how work gets done and fealt like a new man . You can get the microdiscectomy first and then go for the fusion etc if doesn't work for you. I was hitting the 150 ft triple in no time soon after. I was completely convinced I was done with all fun before the procedure. Life renewed.
Had a bulging disc (L5-S1) for close to year. Was a really annoying ache in my right ass cheek, that would occasionally get worse, but was manageable. Was still able to ride MX and lift weights. Some things were impossible though (running).
Complete herniation with fragmentation (a chunk of the squishy part was expelled from disc through an annular tear) in October 2020. Lodged against sciatic nerve. For 3 weeks I had the worst pain of my entire life. Slept on the floor, couldn't sit in a chair, could barely do anything actually. An L5-S1 microdiscectomy fixed my problem.
Do you primarily have sciatic nerve pain or primarily have back pain? Have you had an MRI or other imaging studies done?
Mri was done in December. Bottom 2 discs leaking fluid. I got in really good shape by April. Weight lifted around the injury from Dec to current 3 days a week plus low impact cardio. I was rolling off weight benches and doing seated exercises that normally would be done standing. Started feeling really good by April. A month of riding and I steadily got worse due to leaking fluid from high impacts. Been recovering for 7 weeks from the flare up and I can finally ride a bicycle, but can't lift heavy or or ride moto.
Primary pain is lower back, it spreads to my hips and about a foot from the bad discs every direction. Last few times I rode MX my hips would lock up before the rest of my body was 50% whooped.
I pretty much think I mainly need the discs to just stop leaking which is why I'm considering the discseel procedure the most.
