I have a 2002 cr125 I’m fixing up. I’ve already done the bottom end and now I’m looking to do the topend. I called Eric about porting and boring it a couple months ago and he said he’s no longer doing that. However I checked his website this morning and it shows that he is selling a universal 144 hpp kit. It apparently works from 1987 to 2002.
He has “eliminated” the power valve and claims that with his porting it does not need it.

I’d love to hear if anyone has tried it and how well it works. I cannot see how there would not be negative consequences from removing the powervalve

If no one has tried it does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do instead since he is no longer porting?

I believe Tom Morgan racing is backed up at the moment, but give him a call and he’ll most likely answer your questions. His work puts Gore’s to shame IMO

I have seen his name on here a couple times but nowhere near as many as Gorr. I will give him a call. I’m not looking to make crazy power or anything I just figure while I’m at it I might as well make it more powerful than it is now. Hopefully at least a little more power in the bottom half

I’ll bet we get an unpunctuated, block of gibberish and info about the trucking industry here shortly.
Anyone know who did Tara Geiger’s engine?

I think he works in Millennium,s bldg Very busy place. They built a huge addition last yr, people everywhere. Any kind of engine you could think of, single cylinder to inline 4,s.  Pv delete 144 I don’t know you better be an expert to keep it on the pipe. Super thin exhaust port bridge cr ,s are notorious for breaking the bridges on stock bore.

Tom does not work in mill tech’s building. Gorr had a relationship with them at one point though.

Who is Varner? Does he do good work or just know someone who does?

Wow he seems pretty unpopular😂 so pretty much the only good option is to hope tmr is available sometime soon? Does anyone have any idea of what they do to improve power? Such as port timing, Port shape, decking the cylinder or machining the head

Yes all of the above. Highly regarded 2 stroke engine builder.

Tom Morgan is great. He’s backed up for a reason. He did the head on my CRF 250R, but was easy to contact and upfront about how long it would take.

TMR isn't accepting work for now, at least that is how it stood a couple weeks back. He said there was a backlog of work, etc. YMMV

Cal DH1 in ohio, hp race development, pr2, tlr in florida, Ahm, race tech does some decent motorwork. Williams motorwerk in Wi does good work. JM racing and reynard racing do great cr work in fact I had my cr 125 rebuilt stock but blueprinted basically and it ran better just from that. Then had them build a race motor, worth every penny.

Wvery one on this list has done a motor for me or for a friend and I have rode their bikes. I would send my bike to any of them and be happy. There more im forgetting and will add to the list as i remember.

One thing to remember is that the cr125 is not a easy bike to tune so i would go with a tuner that has plenty of experience with the CR engine.

It’s a shame that Varner has shit the bed on this one since he was the go to tuner for cr’s for many years.

Has anyone in here used HP race development for their CR’s?

I know that he used to post a lot on vital a couple of years back and i follow all of his youtube stuff.

HP does some good work all around on bikes but does have a good build for both CR's.

Your not kidding their finicky. If you dont measure the whole top end and get it to spec when doing a top end it will run different every single time. Yz's and kx's werent like that.

Being a CR dont sleep on reynard modification and j bone.

Reynards old man did a lot of work for honda on those engines to get robbie some better parts like works brakes for his CR's. Lot of people dont know that.  An if i remember correctly they used his specs on Fonsecas 125.

I raced cr125’s in 02/03 with different tuned engines. One bike came from a Dutch GP team that in the last second pulled their 125 effort and went to larger bikes instead.

In -03 i had a bike with a Italian SRS A kit and after that in modern days i have built a -90 cr125 with a Mugen kit, a -02 With a 155cc big Bore/Stroker HPP engine and now im in the progress of finnishing a -07 cr125 with a 144cc kit and a programable CDI and a pwk carb with a powerjet and i know all to much how hard the cr125 life can be.

I talked to a guy who sent a 05-07 engine to Chad Watts to get it built that later put it on a dyno here in Sweden to test some exhausts and it made a whopping 37 hp and a stock yz125 put out 36 on that dyno.

He did not sound that impressed over the results on that engine.

I appreciate all the info. Seems like tmr is pretty popular and pretty much everywhere is good reviews of him. so I believe I may end up going with him after he is accepting work again. I work at a dealership and get a great deal on parts so for now I suppose I’ll just get a new piston until he is taking on work again as the cylinder is still in decent shape and I’m ready to ride😂

I just had a KX125 that was built by Tom display at Hangtown this past weekend. The owner fired it up, and it was one the best sounding 125's I've heard.. Check it out the video of it on our TikTok.
