This us against them mentality is pretty stupid. I am tickled to death that we have a GP at GH. For next year MX sports and YS need to bury the hatchet, work together and do what's good for the sport.

it's not us against them.

I'm just saying that the USGP is not the race of the century and the USA riders have nothing to gain by participating.

So what do the GP riders have to gain by riding Hangtown?

The same thing AMA riders have to gain.

Racing is and always has been about Money.

Why is a USGP of any more value then the race at Hangtown ?

being sentimental is for us fans and like FTE said it's up to the promoter to pay the participants and sell the sentimental value to us.

sell the sentimental value to you?? LMAO

you haven't written a single thing from a fan's POV.... it's all "the teams shouldn't do this..." "the teams should do this..."

it might actually be nice if we heard what YOU actually thought, all you do is speak for other people on these matters

do YOU want to see Americans at GH?
do YOU want to see Europeans at Hangtown?

All kidding aside, that's a terribly unfair position to put the riders in. Very few guys make a load of money and their window of opportunity for that is both (1) short in almost every case and (2) subject to being over in an instant because this is a very unforgiving sport with a high probability of injury.

If a guy is being paid and has an upside in bonus/contingencies to win one series, then no one here can properly question that.

Yes, and I like all the GP riders, Coppins and Cairoli being my favorites and of course our USA guy's Zach Osborne and Albertson.

I like racing , I would like a USGP with or with out AMA riders. Same can be said for the AMA Nationals.

i think you are reading WAAAAAAAAY too much into what i wrote... it was a statement laced heavily in sarcasm aimed at a supposed 'fan' who just constantly tries different ways to speak for other people

i, personally, have no problem if no Americans race GH or no Europeans race Hangtown. I don't expect it of any rider to ride in a race that they don't have to...

however, according to some.... it seems that money is the ONLY motivation these guys have anymore, and that having the opportunity to match yourselves against different opponents on different tracks in different competitions for a new challenge has no place in a business such as motocross...... THAT was my point

so then i don't understand why you constantly have to play devil's advocate then and take this anti-GP/AMA position?.... i know 1/2 of the time you're just fishing, but it might be a pleasant change if positive words were typed occasionally ?

500guy,

I bet you were sitting in your dirty underpants and picking your nose when you wrote this. Probably had a sideorder of french fries on the table next to an empty pizza box and two half full beer bottles.

In all honesty, any real Motocross fan couldn't care what additional riders race the USGP. The Grand Prix riders are exciting enough to draw a crowd and guys like Cairoli, Roczen, Herlings, Nagl, Desalle and Musquin will be awesome around Glen Helen.

Given how you ended that, I don't think I am reading too much into it without some explanation of the middle ground.

The business of Motocross has been around and will be around for a lot longer than any particular rider.

That would be the MXdN, where they race for Youthstream who charges the fans.

Jay's approach is a little different, but in essence as soon as the GH race was announced people started in on why the Nationals based riders should line up unless they're cowards. It's all about board shit talking, which for this round started flying from your side of the pond.

Why should racers who are invested in one series, and whose sponsors are invested in one series, put that at risk for the sake of old school romance when the event promoter is charging for tickets?

That's so incredibly stupid.

It's not on the riders. It's on their teams, their sponsors and the promoters to make that happen.

It's not on the riders.

FTE,

Because guys like De Reuver, Smets, Chiodi, Everts, Coppins, Swanepoel, Townley, Desalle, De Dycker, Bolley and so many more have done it in the past (racing a round of the Nationals). They did it because they wanted to try something just for fun. You think De Dycker is going to Hangtown because he wants to make money. He is going for a life experience.

I guess the guys I just mentioned must be stupid, at least that is what you think.

i never said they SHOULD..... but you act as if these guys are robots, perhaps they might actually want a different challenge? they might think.... "hmmmm a USGP... that might be cool to enter"

who knows? i don't.... you don't (but act like you do).... no-one except the riders know..... like i said, i don't care either way and sure aren't going to hold a gun to their head

stupid? perhaps un-american... where it's ALL about the benjamins.... but as a lawyer, i understand your position....

started on my side of the pond? really?.... it probably looked like that from California

Youthstream charges the fans?? What are you talking about, I've never been to a race that was free entry. Come to think of it I'm not sure I have been to a sporting event that was free entry for the fans.
What is your point, or are you just YS bashing because it's the thing to do?

You do realise the GP riders race selected national events in between GP races?... only in America does it seem to be a problem to race outside of your main series.

It should be an honour and an exciting challenge for both the teams and the riders to compete in the World Championship against a slew of International riders...not somthing to be afraid of....there is no reason not to try it. Windham still mentions his GP win as one of his career highlights...

This round did.

Cut out the lawyer crap. That's such red herring nonsense. Seriously, David, fuck off on that.

This sport can put a guy in a chair in an instant. Examples among way too many are Ernesto and Pit. And it can knock him out of a series even faster; it happens every year to more than one legitimate title contender.

It's absolutely awesome if a guy crosses over to race, all the more so if it's true chivalry and not testing the waters or getting acclimated.

But if we go back and vet the posts on US riders participating in the GH GP, there are way too many stooping to posts outright saying that US who don't participate fear losing to GP racers. That's bullshit. And appeals to honor without regard to the risk it puts to a rider and his team and sponsors primary goals, for a promoter in business is a short step beyond that and bullshit as well.

What a beautiful example of the duality passion / reason on this last page.

As a fan my vote goes to the passion, of course.

I don't get why other people who are also just fans aren't pulling as much as they can their riders to show up.

I guess I assumed you could read better than you write, Geoff. When all other players in this sport operate for the almighty dollar, riders are the last ~ the very last ~ participants in this sport to be subject to bashing for making decisions to race or not race because of financial interest.

FTE,

Actually there is a promoter at each MXoN and then there is YS. The promoter get the ticket money, not YS.

Obviously you write and read better than me, but don't understand how the MXoN works.

Promoters usually takes the big winning and YS who obviously also make money get a share of that.

Seeing as you and I have never promoted anything how can we have any idea how it works running a sporting event.

As for the MXoN, I think YS with their promotional partners have done a pretty good job on that one.

FTE, what you need to realize is that off-road bike sales in Europe are very, very small, yet we have a series that still pays the riders good money. That in itself is impressive.
