From RacerX:

[quote:3qskfib4]Langston Update

Ping got in touch with Team Yamaha's Grant Langston today for an update. Here's what Ping said:

Grant saw an eye specialist and it's exactly what they thought in the first place; there's some type of fluid leaking behind his eye which caused his vision to get blurry. The Doctor said it may be from a past concussion, but they're not really sure. It could even be stress-induced. He's going to a UCLA specialist today to have some sort of Lasik surgery performed to stop the fluid from leaking. He's definitely not racing this weekend and he's not sure how long he'll be out.

Stay tuned to Racer X Online for further updates as we learn more on Langston's condition.

What a weird thing.

If this had happened to James...geez, he would be getting crucified.

I'm not sure. I'm guessing our plethora of in-house (i.e., on Motodrive) specialists are pretty much orthopedics and not optometrists or neurologists. Of course, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to prove me wrong.

When KW859 had his lasix surgery done to correct his vision they told him not to race for a month. He had it done Jan 30 of last yr and was back on the bike riding in 3wks then racing the first Mega series event the 1st weekend in March. It takes time for the eye to heal. Hopefully Grant will be back soon. Good Luck to him.

Maybe luck is available by allocation, and Grant used all his up in winning the MX championship. He sure doesn't seem to have gotten his share of luck for 08 yet.

Maybe he needs a rabbits foot, or a 4 leaf clover. Something....

Hey Crackcrawler did you know that it just isnt that simple.......? The guy has been to UCLA and other specialists to find out whats wrong and potentially lose vision in his eye since no one knows whats wrong and whats causing the fluid on his eye. BTW his father lost one of his eyes years ago due to an absest so I dont think GL or his family are taking it lightly. Sorry to sound like a dick but at least show the guy a little respect especially what he is going through right now, racing is secondary at this point!

As I am currently on the MX sidelines recovering from a torn retina and emergency laser eye surgery I've learned a lot about eyes and the fluids in them in the last few weeks. This is a very serious situation for Grant. In fact any major eye problems are deemed a medical emergency and require promt treatment to prevent them from getting worse which of course can lead to blindness. I wish him all the best.

Any updates?

Top fuel NHRA guys were going thru this a couple of years a go. Seems the accelaration / deccelaration was causing detached retinas with them.

well i guess it just seems as no one really let on how serious this issue is. even GL in his interview seemed like it was no big deal .. get a contact and be done with it... i guess he's got his game face on for his sponsors... well since you seem to know more about GL's condition more than anyone else, please keep us informed on his progress...N8

Will Langston be signing autographs at SD on Saturday? My 9 year old really wants a picture with the champ, an autograph, and even has a gift for GL8. Kids are so creative and cute.
