2022 RMZ 450 doesn’t start when hot

I’ve been dealing with issues with my RMZ 450 since almost brand new. First time it happened i think it had like 4 hours on it. It runs absolutely perfect while it’s running, starts super easy when cold. But once in a while, if i stall it when it’s hot, it’ll completely flame out and not start until it cools down. Sometimes takes even 45 minutes to get going again.
I checked the valves and they seem to be in spec, also just drained the tank and checked the fuel filter, looks clean. I’ve babied this bike in terms of maintenance, as in changed the oil every other ride and air filter every ride.

I’m scratching my head on this one. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Dumb question, I know, but are you using the hot-start lever in such situations? Didn’t see you mention it above and it makes a huge difference when used correctly.

There isn't a lever on the stock RMZ but there is a cold start button you pull out down on the left side of the throttle body. Maybe check that it's not stuck out?

The stock RMZ doesn’t have one unfortunately. I also feel like it would make difference but with the modern computers and fuel injection it shouldn’t need one.
I ordered the coolant temp sensor and will replace soon and go riding. Also what i think is kind of a design flaw with the RMZ is why put the coolant temp sensor barely 1 inch behind the header? I feel like it could probably mess with the sensor

I typically don’t use it at all because i live in Florida and it always starts no problem when cold, but i have tried pulling it out when it’s not starting and it doesn’t help

Learn something new everyday. Good insight and best of luck with the diagnosis!

2014 was the last RMZ450 with a hot start lever.

You can wrap that section of header to help keep heat off sensor

My bike is doing the same thing. Did the sensor fix your issue?

I used to have this issue with my 2018. I remember one time I was in the woods deep and thought I was going to be stuck. Kiciekd and kicked and kicked and it finally started lol

Though I had a much older version of the RMZ 450 (2009) it was always a bitch to start when hot, and I came in last in many races due to a simple tip over and not being able to fire the bike for 1 or 2 min. Every time i replaced something (piston, camchain, sparkpug, valve adjustment, etc) I always hoped it would improve the starting, but it never did. The bike had a supposed hot start lever, but it was just for show; didn't change it at all.

I heard an ECU flash can help a lot with the starting, maybe thats something to look into. Btw, I would also recommend getting a cheap chinese suzuki OBD readout ripoff, it worked fine and you can check all the temp sensors, throttle position and fault codes.

Any luck on figuring it out? I’m dealing with the similar issue. Bike starts cold fine and runs great when running but when I go to kickstart it after riding for awhile it will do a lil sputter 1st-2nd kick and then nothing. I can bump start it and again it will run fine. Just can’t get it to start on the kick.
