Now that I hear Paul Denis is here in Old School Moto, let's talk about some of those battles that he and Larry Brooks had at Saddleback.
I remember watching them go at it at Saturday Saddleback and on Sundays when they had NMA, CMC and all kinds of other big events. It was so cool to watch. I think it elevated the 80 Expert class at the time. Everyone always walked out on on the hill's and stood at the fences to watch them race. Those were some fun days.

If you weren't there to watch these guys race, you missed some great battles.

Glad you've come back around to talk about the good old days Paul.

Being on the other side of the country I missed those battles, but I sure enjoyed reading about them in the magazines.

Would have been awesome to witness those races but I loved reading about that era in Minicycle Magazine back in the day. I've always wondered what happened to a lot of those guys and why the transition to the big bikes wasn't as successful... Guys like Denis, Brooks, Eddie Hicks, Warren, Kalos and Junior Jackson to name a few were simply awesome but didn't have as much success after the minicycles or they hung it up.

Larry and i had some great battles.. I rarely got around L.B. without a long drawn out battle, for his position.. He was the master of the break check.. Any ware any time, if you were not ready for it, you had no chance of beating him... second only to Rudy Dickenson, who in my oppinion was the KING... That is all for now.

Its to bad no one ever saw me and Dave Miller, battling countless laps on the flat track at saddleback. some of the best racing ever... Its to bad me and Larry were never on the same team.. Would have been a team managers worst nightmare..

NMA Champ -- I can sure remember a race that you had with Dave Miller under the lights at OCIR. You were on your KX and Miller was on his DMC YZ.

Here's a familiar face. I think this is 1983? Most likely a CMC day at SaddleBack

Those were from the Kawasaki Dealer Accessories catalog. They were very similar to Griffs. Who knows, Griffs may have made them for Kawasaki?

Check that photo. My gear was like a representation of every moto garb company of the day. Bell helmet, Scott goggles, O'neal jersey, JT kidney belt, Fox gloves, Kawi/ Griffs pants, AXO boots, and there is even a set of old school Jofa shoulder pads under there somewhere.

I didn't give a shit what name was on it, as long as it worked.

LOL, I can relate to that. I've posted this pic a few times before but only a couple of people have noticed the mish-mash of JT Kawi pants, JT Suzuki jersey, mechanic's right glove, JT Kawi left glove and Esprit boots.

Right on CamP. If I made it to the track with my bike, that was all that mattered to me.

Looks don't win the races, boys!
