Lost the bolt that holds the shift lever on my KTM 150SX yesterday mid moto. Do any of yall use blue loctite to keep this from happening? Costing me 19.00 to get a new tiny azz replacement bolt. Of course ,no riding till I get it replaced. I ordered 2 just in case.
Make sure the nordlock washers are used and I also use loctite as well as safety wiring the bolt
Cool, havent thought about safety wiring. As for the washers , i dont think the bolts i ordered come with them. Ill see if i can find some to get beforehand . Thx
Blue Loc-Tite helps, so do those Nord-Lock "washers".
I’ve always used just a hint of red on my 125SX, but I’m sure blue would be just fine.
How’d 2 bolts and two washers cost you $19?
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Probably $6 for the hardware and $13 for shipping or something like that...
Blue loctite is useless on that bolt, when the engine gets up to operating temperature, blue will turn back into almost a liquid. I use a small drop of red and it works perfect and the bolt is still removable,
I disagree with that statement on temperature performance.
Henkel claims that their 242 product (Blue LocTite) Service Temperature: -65°F (-54°C) to 300°F (149°C)
Henkel claims that their 271 product (Red LocTite) Service Temperature: -65°F (-54°C) to 300°F (149°C)

That bolt isn't getting hot enough to alter blue thread locker
I safety wire mine. Drill a small hole through the head of the bolt, and then another through the corner of the shifter, and wire it up. Got tired of dealing with this and now it's no longer a concern.
Solve that Problem that way years Ago , never again a loose Shift Lever Since 10 Years
I had to drill my bolt and saftey wire on my 150. I also did my engine bolts. For some reason, I lost one of each and said "no more".
Yeah, that bolt is a mandatory drill-and-safety-wire spot. 100% mandatory. Same as you, I lost one once years ago and have wired it ever since.
To start with the KTM dealer only had titanium for 22.00!! Said no thanks lol. Ordered from Racetech at 7.19 each plus shipping. But at least this way I have two of them. Supposed to arrive today. Still cant figure out what a nord lock washer is either.
So what is that called , and more importantly, where do you get one?
The stock setup uses the Nordlock washers. It's a pair of washers that has interfacing serrations to prevent it from backing off. FWIW, I've never had the stock setup come loose on any of many Austrian bikes I've dealt with.
Thank You!
I definitely use thread locker on those bolts. Make sure you spray some brake cleaner on there to get the threads nice and clean before. I gotta look into the safety wire as well because losing that would be a rough day.
Just recently lost my oil fill cap. Luckily it was a 2 stroke, but I'm looking into adding safety wire on a few spots now.
Lol been there done that, lost a shifter 2 laps into an XC race, stuck in second gear. Did 3 more laps revving the absolute piss out of my bike. I just use red loctite on that bolt now and a new OEM shifter. Hasnt came off since.
Pit Row
I figured out the Hinson clutch cover that KTM sells for the 250f puts the stock oil fill cap in a position that it gets kicked loose for me. I switched to a Ride Engineering plug that is much lower profile and it is staying tight for now.
Got the nord lock washers and blue loctite. Put a Tusk lever on and seems to be good to go!!
Ouch, that isn't a fun way to find out lol. Definitely one to watch out for. I bought a couple of the power parts ones to use on the stock cover so I'm curious to see if they work any better.
