Dungey's doing a great job. Some of the judgments here are the product of a decade or more of "no one's expected to win but RC/MC/Stewart" runs. He's having a better run than some of the legends in the 80's and early 90's, who also had to race against a lot of stiff competition in parity.
Listen to this guy.. Dungey may just be doing it the best way he can which seems to be the best way period and thats not so badSmile

I like the way Dungey talks when interviewed. He's not only a talented rider, but also a very talented speaker.

I think he actually gets more hype. He was favored to win plenty of titles that he did not win and all everyone was saying was that he would dominate last years outdoors.

Out of 6 title chases that he competed in before this year, 07-08-09 mx/sx he won 2 and almost 3 titles which is better than the other more hyped prodigy's coming out of Loretta's those years. He also beat Villopoto straight up many times [not just once] in the 2nd half of 08 mx season...RD,RV,CR,JS,AS,JG are all gonna be in it this summer but the luckiest/smartest/consistent is gonna win the title and that could be RD.............
Every race is straight up I guess but every loss in 08' motocross didnt come to rv without an incident. Washougal rv caught passed rd for the win 1st moto 2nd moto he hunted rd down and got too close and got a rock to the goggles, 1st loss after 12 moto straight moto wins. Won 1st moto in millville, then crashed while leading 2nd moto and came in 2nd. Tied for points overall went to rd. Smoked RD in southwick. Crashed out of both motos in steel city. RD is a great rider but RV dominated 08 mx

I was just about to write that. Not too sure what web mx was going on about when he said that.

Wrong!! Porcel had a 19 point lead going in to Southwick and won every moto on out aside from that mechanical failure.

What happened moto 2 at southwick!

Doesn't get as much credit (or hype) as he deserves.
Wins his first ever AMA Lites Supercross race.
2009 AMA Lites West Champion
2009 AMA Lites Motocross Champion
2009 MXDN Champion
Currently leading AMA Supercross Points Standings.

I think he'll win the outdoor title this year as well.
Wrong!! Porcel finished 11th in the second moto at Southwick which was after his bike quite in the first moto. IMHO, he gave up in that moto and lost valuable points (got passed by his teammate JW). IF he would have pushed harder in that moto and scored more points, he would have put more pressure on Dungey going into the last race and anything can happen in motocross. The fact is Dungey never gave up and he is the champ.

He seems to love his Motocross,
Which is what would seem Important,
I root for Villo but I still admire the kid.

This isn't meant to be a RD vs RV topic.

I just wanted to mention how dungey is the underdog in every series he enters. but comes out victorious.

He wasnt mentioned previously to the 010' SX series, it was all about RV, Reed, and Stewart. Dungey was a threat to james regardless of james being hurt or not.

Same for the nationals, you'll all say RV is faster, or Reed is more consistant. I think RD will win the outdoor title. He led team USA to victory and he prooved to be consistant to overcome CP in the outdoors last year.

Good post. I was thinking of doing one similar the other day. Dungey isn't getting the props he deserves. The kid has managed a lot while his competitors that maybe are considered as more talented have failed repeatedly.

Maybe Dungey persona isn't what some of us would like, but as a racer he's pretty damn good!

really?come on. when pourcel beat dungey he killed him. often would taunt him also, just like in the last race to show him he was the man. i really like dungey but hes gonna have 6-7 guys that are fast this year, not 1 or 2, and canard was giving pourcel all he could handle til he got hurt. the good thing is ryan a few years younger than pourcel and hes got good style reminds me a bit of reed. villopoto is more of a bulldog and i still think his style fits the 250f better than the 450. the outdoors is gonna be great

All that matters at the end of the season is who is holding that number 1.

How you get there doesn't mean shit.

Really? If one remembers correctly, Pourcel and Dungey went after the same championship and Dungey won. Ryan then moved up while Pourcel decided to
sandbag. Seems Dungey will continue his winning ways and win the 450's while
Pourcel is still doing what?
