Cooper was always one of my favorite riders. The man could throw a sick whip too.

True Story:
My dad actually called his house one day out of the blue to ask him some questions about me going pro. He left a message with his wife and to my surprise he actually called back later that night and talked to my dad for quite a while. He even invited us out to his house so we could meet and watch me ride. This guy didn't know us from Adam! Definately left an impression on me.

I believe it. Guy always seemed to be like one of the most down-to-earth individuals that ever threw a leg over a motocross bike. Never talked any smack - he let his riding do the talking.
I was sooo po'd that Chicken took him out on the last lap while he was leading the San Jose SX '91 or '92. The one Dubach won and Bradshaw got stuck in gate and still got second.
I was disappointed when again, Coop leading on the last lap, Ward passed him in at Atlanta '90. That race had once again, the most different leaders at any race I remember.
Again, I told this one; a rider and wife in a station wagon driving from OK, with a bike and everything they needed at '84 Hangtown and everyone wondering who this "guy" was. I believe he got a top 5 overall in his first National.
Heard more great Guy Cooper stories from us plain folks and certainly still is a great ambassador to our sport.
Thanks for posting
he had that crazy jump on his property where you landed on top of a cliff face too that was in a couple mags back then.
I was at that san jose race that he should have won, was a crazy night
Truly one of the most genuine nice guys of the sport.
And that San Jose SX was one of the weirdest races after Coop got took out on the last lap.
Like so many, my heart stopped, bummed that he had the race if it weren't for that Chicken move.
