Reading a bike review on a new bike is one thing, but I love reading comparisons from people who have changed brands on recent models. Anybody mix it up between brands on the current generation 450s with some cool feedback?
2022+ CRF/RMZ, 2023+ Austrian/YZ, 2024 KX
Just sold a 21' KX450 for a 22' CRF450. I liked aspects of the KX, but the CRF turns way better, has a stronger motor, and much better build quality. I've ridden a 23' KTM350. Wasn't a fan. Forks were garbage and it vibrated badly. I haven't ridden a 23' or newer YZ450. I'd like to try one out.
You find the Honda to be as twitchy and harsh as all the shootouts say?
I went from a 2018 YZ450F to a 2023 450SXF. I love them both. Main thing I've noticed is the ktm feels like it wants to steer with the front end a lot more. Due to that, I like the ktm better on hard pack and ruts but not as much in sand. I also feel much more comfortable on the ktm than the yamaha being a taller rider at 6'3". I actually really like the suspension on the ktm even coming from the kyb stuff.
I have a 21 Ktm with the air fork. I don’t see what the big fuss is about. I like the fork.

It's definitely more rigid than the Kawi. I mainly feel that through the bars and in my hands. However, it turns better than any other 450 I've ever ridden. I can see how all the shootouts say it's rigid and twitchy, but you have to consider that they primarily test at Glen Helen which is fast, choppy, and square edge most of the time. If the same shootouts went East and rode softer, deeper tracks, I think their feelings on the Honda would be much different.
Every shootout I see rates the 22-24 Honda CRF450 in last place, but I don't care, I love the bike and the looks and it's an exciting ride, but you need to be on your game probably more than a Kawaski or Yamaha 450. I'm at an age where I'm not trying to qualify for a National, so lap times don't matter, but quality, fun factor and looks of the bike do. If I was racing, I'd probably go with a Kawasaki KXF450SR, because the reviews say that's the bike to have.
Kx450 to a Yamaha yz450f. I also ride a 2022 ktm350sxf with cone valves. I kind of do my own shootout before I settle on the bike that I want (heavily influenced by the reviews)
The only way to really know, is ride all bikes, with setup for you, on a bunch of different tracks. Also, lap times or just fun will probably not coincide.
I do, I have hit the ground more times on this bike than any other. I also have a 22 yz450f, hands down a better bike than the honda.
