While I agree that he should not have taken the goggles, I will disagree that he is likely a thief in other areas of his life just based on looking at him. They look like super excited fans to me.
If he had felt like he was stealing them I doubt he would have made the posts he made showing himself in the goggles.
I think they got excited and perhaps over reacted . Being used to seeing riders toss their goggles . I really do think the rock star statement made by Ilovemoto is most likely what was going on. I do not agree that its not a big deal. It was unsafe, if not OK with Jett. If Jett was allowing them to take them, that is different. But still dangerous.
And if this is ok, what next? ripping a jersey off? bar pad or whatever is able to be pulled off the bike? Fans should have to be given an item for it to be OK.
This guy was right in front of Drew Adams in the same exact spot when he won the futures. If you watch the replay of the burnout he is pointing to Drews goggles (inches away) and asking for them repeatedly. You can see it plain as day. Maybe he did the same to Jett before the picture was taken? ORRRRR maybe the buzz was that much stronger four races later and his asking turned to taking. Need to hear from Jet.

When I was saying that it depended on what Jett said. I meant that if he told the guy to pull them off that would be different. Not if he cared that they were taken.
If Jett said take my goggles + OK
If jet said he did not care when asked after the fact, BUT he did not tell the fan to take the goggles before the fan took them= NOT OK
I think the way I worded my reply earlier did not make that clear so I just wanted to try and clarify.

LeBig was right there and said he said Jett did not say to take them, but another guy commented saying he was in that photo and Jett did say to take them. LeBig also said he asked Jett and Jett said he did not say to take them and thought they were trying to hug him.
I hope Jett doesn’t say anything about the goggles, doesn’t matter what he says, it will get taken wrong or blown out of proportion.
Update: Listening to Pulp from last night. The goggle "thief" returned the goggles to Daniel Blair in an effort to get them back to Jett. Jett was on the call with Steve and Daniel talking about the situation. Sounded like the thief dude asked to take them off, and Jett was there nodding his head while revving his bike. "Thief" dude said it was a misunderstanding and asked Daniel to return the goggles to Jett.

Even though Jett seemed to not really care about them, if he had said that he was unhappy people would jump on him. I'm glad the fan wants to get them back to Jett. Who knows if he really misunderstood, or what the deal was. I think the guy should be taken at his word, unless he has some criminal past that is unknown that comes out .
It is a bigger problem that fans in general feel like the riders owe them a souvenir. Hopefully that trend fades away.
