... I was there, but my memory never has been that good - I don't remember a 125 class in the Trans-AMA series...

I'm calling bull crap on this one!

first off no 125 class & second Maico works bike were just production bikes with really good attention to detail.

The clown is just trying to use the "Wheelsmith" name to make more money & some fool will fall for it!

Besides Wheelsmith was just a local shop that made some cool shit for Maico's, they sure as hell didn't build works bikes!

eBay is an amazing thing at times  - providing quite a spectacle and loads of entertainment, as long as you're not one of the ones losing his ass...

from what I've heard, that ol' Cobra of yours and Maico 125 (& Zundapp 125 :D ) lower ends all had a certain characteristic "exploding" trait in common -

Yup - load of crap as there was no Trans-AM 125 class.

Main class was the 500s with 250s as support.
Those Maico 125s were a nice looking bike, but a stock TM125 would out power them, out brake them, out corner them and basically leave them for dead <img class= " title="Laughing">

I do remember they ran some support classes early on, especially in the Inter-Am series. A Buddy of mine ran a couple of them at Elkhorn Wisc. It would be misleading to include those but maybe that's what this guy is alluding to?

The inter am series was 250 as the premier class, and the support class was open .

I remember seeing one of those rotary valve Maico 125's , busted the flywheel side of the crank off. When they pulled the ignition cover, flywheel ,crank , keyway ,and nut dropped on the ground in one nice little pile of garbage.

Very claen nice bike with lots of custom parts. But not a works bike. The Euro 125's were just not up to par with the Jap bikes.

Trying to shake the cobwebs off my 1974 memories of the local 125cc class in SoCal . . .

I remember that Honda 125 Elsinore seemed to be about 75% of the gate. The rest of the gate was mostly Suzuki TM's and YZ's with a few Pentons, Bultaco's and very rare CZ or Maico.

I don't remember European bikes being very competitive in the 125cc class in 1974
