Psychological effects of seasoned AMA SX/MX Champions getting beat by a 20 year old

Kenny - Beats Jett in SMX and Jett calls it a gift......Kenny wants to beat Jett Chase - Came in 2nd place in most races outdoors...

Kenny - Beats Jett in SMX and Jett calls it a gift......Kenny wants to beat Jett

Chase - Came in 2nd place in most races outdoors, knowing he was going as fast as he possibly could......Chase wants to beat Jett.

Eli - Sees Jett beating everyone outdoors and sees Jett win SMX......Eli wants to beat Jett

Anderson - Jett yanks on his helmet and expects him to move over for him........Anderson wants to beat Jett

Heck, all the competitors want to beat Jett.

Jett is the reason for all of them wanting to beat him, whether it be something that happened on or off the track. I do not believe any of them have any lingering psychological effects, they just want to win.

News flash, they all want to beat each other. LoL I know what you're getting at though

He's young and full of beans, his only responsibility is racing (not his kids) and he hasn't been seriously injured (yet, I don't wish it on anyone but obviously it's always a risk, it does happen and it has happened to a lot of the guys out there).

Youthful exuberance and some additional fearlessness can surely bridge some of the gap that experience would otherwise cause, when all of them there are super fast, super talented and grew up racing at the top level.

I doubt they're concerned with his age too much, they just want to win.

Back in 2020 Anehiem-2, 250 main he was battling with DF and went over the bars into the face of a jump and broke his collar bone or shoulder, so there's that.

You're not implying that's a bad thing are you? This sport is one big head game. You use whatever you can for extra motivation. Hannah kept a cardboard stand up of Roger in his gym for motivation. Said he wanted to be like him. It worked out pretty good for him. All those names listed are more determined than ever and that's not a bad thing.

He had a practice crash and missed the west coast series having to ride east.

I feel like this needs saying

It's not 'you Lawrence fans' making this shit up and posting dumb hyperbolic statements about him

IT'S THIS ONE PARTICULAR LAWRENCE FAN!

When you react to him by putting down Jett it annoys the rest of his 'normal' fans so then they feel the need to defend him..

If you're sick of or annoyed by a fan aim your frustrations at the fan not the rider..

Edit: I understand there's more than one that makes silly statements but my base message stands

If you're making reference to Moi!, since I joined this forum I've started 36 topic and 5 of them have been about Jett Lawrence specifically.  I ride Honda's and KTM's and I think it's great to see Honda's on top after 20 years of winning no titles in the 450 AMA SX and MX classes.  Jett Lawrence has had the greatest start in the Premier class in AMA SX/MX history and was amazing at the MXON, so that's why he's the most popular rider in the AMA and he gets the most attention on TV, it's not just me, but when you have a perfect season in the AMA 450 class and you're only 19 years old when you did it, that is going to get people talking.  Anyways! Jett Lawrence is Australian and he rides for Honda and both those are contentious Hot Topic issues for a lot of people interested in the sport for whatever reason, so anytime a Jett thread pops up they go nuts and making insults.  Like I mentioned before, when you have a legitimate young Superstar in any sport, it's going to attract attention good and bad and those that dislike him are hoping for something unfortunate to happen to him to slow down his success.

firstly you joined a year ago and have started 36 topics that's a lot..

It's not that you start a topic on him it's what you say in that topic.. I reckon you know exactly what you're doing and I reckon it's annoying..

If you really believe all those things then you shouldn't feel the need to remind people.. but how would that get you the attention you seem to crave

So! you're offended by what I say in a thread about Jett Lawrence. There's also a thread on this forum titled "Can RC suck off Tomac anymore" and this is just one of a lot of RC threads where there are comments that are pretty disrespectful to the greatest rider in AMA History, but did you come to his defense in any of those, because if you didn't than it makes you seem like a pretty big Hypocrite.  Respect and Disrespect run rampant in on this site, so if you're going to call me out, you better pack a lunch and call out quite a few other members on this board.

I was saying that you use inflammatory language in your posts.. (I'll save you the google search that doesn't mean rude language it just means you'll use language that is designed to get a rise out of people)

I'm not sure why that means I need to defend RC but ok

Right, he knows exactly what he's doing. He's not full in trolling but he's doing it low-key.  And he tried the same thing with me. "You got your panties in a bunch." It's like you're giving yourself too much credit. I don't give an anonymous troll on the internet a second thought

Other than the Mud races, Jett Lawrence has everyone covered in the speed category in Supercross if it's a normal dry track.  I wonder what's going through the minds of all these past AMA Pro SX and MX champions when they see 20 year old Jett in front of them and they're like Damn! this kid is fast, where can I find more speed, but all they can do is watch him steadily pull away no matter how hard they push.  I'm thinking after his rookie perfect MX season in 2023, Jett has already the psychological edge knowing he IS! the fastest rider and he's only going to get better.  So! many great riders who would have won Championships, but ended up racing for 2nd, because there was always that one rider like Ricky Carmichael or Jeremy McGrath that always had them covered.   Jett is certainly on track to becoming a legend to the dismay of those who don't like him.

Maybe they feared Jett at the beginning of the season coming off of 14-0 outdoors but he hasn’t won all the supercrosses and heat races with seasoned perfection so i don’t think his competitors think of him as the only guy to beat yet.  And him picking a dispute with Anderson and losing having to apologize doesn’t sound any extra intimidating either.

Jett has come through the pack but he, his brother, or no one else on the track is a an easy win.  If Jett wins the rest of the year then maybe the old guys will wonder what to do but for now plenty of teams and riders are ready to block pass since they have been extra nice…Anderson didn’t even take out Jett to get him all upset.

Good question though.  Talent and speed doesn’t mean game over in this sport.  James and Ricky had lots of battles and crashes to prove staying power and there’s challengers on the way up like RC had to take on Stew after beating MC and Reed.  There’s always someone to challenge and if not it’s rare or fixed.  McGrath doesn’t want to see his record broken and with 4 strokes it’s hard to be that much faster and Chase is already better this year more consistent not afraid just because he got beat.

I think for the guys up around that 30 mark they probably aren’t too gutted or surprised by it. It should be expected at their age.  I think the entire sport is amazed at how well these guys are doing at an age that used to be well passed the prime age. But for someone like sexton in his what is it 4th year in 450s? He should be peaking right now and at his best all round performance. Hey maybe he is and he will actually dungey this championship like has been mentioned elsewhere, or maybe he’s pissed cos his young buck ex teammate is maybe gonna make him look 2nd rate again.

Yup a 30 year old is already a success in this sport and they can shake off not winning but still think they have what it takes on any given night and we got plenty of those this year.  For younger people even with skills they are building their confidence and managing ego and adrenaline.  It’s a long week with interviews, press day, and training not everyone can pull off just with talent and speed so that’s where experience comes in especially with this sport’s schedule and demands.

I wonder how a 20 year old phenom feels about getting lapped in the mud.

And just how many times did you get lapped...

I wonder how a 31 year old "veteran" feels about getting lapped in the dry

Love how quickly we forget everyone with the exception of DF14 and AP7 have been lapped in the mud races this year. But let's only poke at Jett.
