A few riders were trying out these new "Ankle-Savers" style foot-pegs at Indy.
I've got some pics of em...but I'll try to include them with a complete INDY SX
report later, but for now you can check 'em out at :
http://www.anklesavers.com/
Now break up into small groups and discuss these foot-pegs thoroughly, or at least
until insults fly.
before i ride again i will buy a set i can see the
worth of them.
What did you not like about them?
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
That sounds nasty!!!
I like the idea for sure... Tho there could be an issue with draggin shit behind the pegs... Maybe they could do something similar without the loop, just to make sure it wouldn't catch rocks, sticks, other mx related crap...
Great thinking tho... I've got a bad ankle and am definitely interested!!!!
They don't seem like they'd fold up or in out of the way
when needed to do so & that could add in another
problem entirely........?

1) They passed tech at the Indy SX this week so they are legal. To do that they must fold back the entire 50 degrees as though they were stock. This is stated in teh AMA rules and the yare in compliance.
2) Does not matter if it is a two or four stroke. One note, they do stop the kickstart from going all of the way through the stroke. This feels a bit different, but your peg stops your kickstart anyway, and these pegs are on a bout 50 bikes right know from mini's to biggie's 2 and 4 stroke, carberated and fuel injected with no starting issues to date.
3) I built them to protect your ankles which they do! However, they do have a few performance enhancing characteristics (for some). In particularly, the pro's that are using them ar etelling me they love the min the whoops. I have one highly ranked national amature rider who loves them in the whoops and on the straits. Some however, never feel them unless they case a jump or get too far back on their toes.
4) So far I have had not one single negative coment from amyone using them. They meet the requirements for stock bikes as well. The AMA rules state that the pivot point cannot be lower than the frame or the crankcase, whichever is lower. They are in compliance with this rule as well.
5) The ankles-saver(tm)technology (simple as it may seem)is currently patent pending and the ankle-savers(tm) trademark is in arbitration. I manufactured the ankles-saver(tm) technology to stock foot pegs for the initial marketing, but am sold out. I will have original ankle-saver(tm) footpegs in the next couple of weeks for big bike Honda and Kawi's. I can retro fit mini's and others as shown on the website. We will have to make arrangements for Yamaha's and Suzuki's with Ti pegs at this time, however, they are coming as well. You can send me any steel peg and I will fit them for you. You can do it your self if you wish, but they ar eprotected by law so I respectfuly ask that you don't do it for others.
Please ask about anything and I will do my best to asnwer your questions or assist you in any way I can. Already making some for other East SX riders as we speak! They really do work guys. Protect those ankles so you cna keep on srubbing

Have you had any troubles with the loop in the saver catching debris?!? I ride enduro etc a bit and love the idea as I have a bad ankle, but it seems like it could be a fish hook for rocks, sticks, assorted trail crap!?!
Could you redo so they are more open at the back or less chance of catching rubbish?
To be honest, I don't think we have any experience in the woods yet. One thing to consider; they don't hang down as far as you think. They are not lower than the base of the main peg, and are certainly no lower than the frame. As well, they are cambered in slightly so that in a hard case the tendancy is to guide your ankles and knees in toward the bike vice out and sliding off. The patent allows for every imaginable angle, but our testing has shown that about 19 degrees is the most desireable to allow protection but still allow for a comfortable range of motion. Having said that, I have thought that woods riders might prefer less of an angle for more support more of the time. That would lessen the possibility for things to catch in it, but I would have to say it is still possible. Could build them without the loop, but that kind of scares me having to speers hanging out. That is also in the patent like several other possibilities, but I don't think I will ever build them that way for safety reasons. Another possibility is to use a lightweight underplate which I may do for the enduro folks. That would stop things from sticking in it, but would add wight. In my mind, that little bit of extra wt is not an issue, but may be to some. At any rate, always oipen to improving the product. Jsut a matter of what you, the customer, wants out of it.
Lastly, another question that may come up wrt to the kickstart. The patent also allows for a design that permits the kickstart to pass through. I may do that in the future as well, but it requires a little more engineering to make work properly. Since we are not having problems with the bikes starting, for now, simpler is better
Thanks for your question Sir, I hope this answers it.

they have help me so much in the whoops and just the feel of having
more overall control of the bike when leaning back is unreal and for me control = speed!! guys these pegs are not just some fly by night
crap there the real deal tom has put alot of work in them and its
paying off!! when riding with them they feel like stock pegs untill
you lean back on them no way what so ever do they hamper your riding
I know the 1st time that I seen them on a bike i thought to myself
what in the world lol but after I trying them out it didnt take long
before I had a set on my bike ... Thanks Tom for a great peg that
offers so much!!!!
I suppose a plate or even three bars running longways so there wasn't that space but would still let mud through etc might be the ticket, but then if they don't hang down to much it might not even be an issue...
Good work on designing something unique and new mate, I love it when Tech heads come up with this sorta stuff!
