Anyone else’s stock muffler feel loose even with clamp and bolts tight? Mine has a ton of play side to side with everything tight

Only 4 hrs on bike but mine is tight. I pulled the end cap off today with the muffler on the bike and the muffler doesn't move.

You pull the baffle and screen out?

My oem exhaust had that movement as well -nothing alarming but happy it still has the  rubber grommet .

Ive now moved onto the HGS- will report how it is in the dyno and track .

Yes, used a socket to flatten the 'baffle' as suggested by a friend and ripped the screens out. Sounds louder but haven't ridden it yet. Will probably try it on the turn track today.

Were the screens and baffle towards the end cap? And I'm assuming you didn't have to mess with the packing?

Page 15 of this thread I’ve got photos of the guts of this abomination of a muffler.

Ideally a little heat, O2 acetylene or butane to soften up that baffle and open it up.

Skid plates from 19-23 fit the 24

The baffle is in the end cap. The first screen is pretty easy to get with a long needle nose, the second not as easy. I ordered string packing from Moose before pulling mine apart because when a friend pulled his apart his was under packed by 50% but mine ended up being fine? You don't have to pull the packing .

This is true (19-23 fit), they bolt up on the 4 mounting locations. I bought a stock plastic one but had to remove some material where the cast frame piece welds to the extruded square frame tube. This was to make it lay flat…

Someone posted doing this way up the thread with pics.

If you buy, let’s say a Carbon Fiber one that curls around the frame tubes it would have a small gap cuz of the weld… could relieve skid plate in that area, or smooth the weld some.

23 Acerbis Skid plate fits, but I had to do a lot of trimming in order to get it to sit flush on the lower frame rails near the rear linkage. They made those welds down there HAAA-REEAAL beefy and I didn't feel very comfortable having it hang down. Also I had to shorten the tip that goes near the exhaust pipe to avoid it potentially hitting and maybe melting. I can post pictures later, I did it largely free hand so its not the prettiest. Didn't think to use the OEM plate as a template until after. Also Works Connection released a skid plate for the 2024 earlier this week.

Here is a  Prototype filter installed with a 3D printed power flow filter cage.  Twin Air also has a completely new air box replacement housing, wash cover,  and cage in testing, it is configured similar to a KTM snap in filter and is vastly superior to the stock airbox.

We got these back from Mark Johnson at REP yesterday and spent the day at Glen Helen testing clickers.  I think this is REP's finest work to date, the re valved fork and shock is vastly superior to stock.    This is only the second set he has done for the 24 after Keefer's, and they hit it out of the park with the settings.

Nice that you were able to get the HGS - as far as I know they are only pre production exhausts.

Were you able to order them or do you know someone in Holland?

image-20240117124851-1For the guys that were hoping to get the same performance with the stock muffler as the Pro circuit system. Here they are side by side. (I took one of the screens out of the stock unit). The Pro Circuit pipe definitely increases power and has a much larger opening.

It might not be under packed until you check the  amount of packing needed. I know Yoshimura has a spec weight of packing for every bike and that changes performance on the dyno.

The current Showa stuff is pretty damn good. Very close to Yamaha KYB SSS. The KX chassis with good valving is magical on a rough track. I swear, the more beat up the track gets the better the bike works.

I agree! Seems a lot of people loveee KYB but I love my Showa. Rougher the track gets the better I seem to feel.

I had several 250fs with KYB & raced them the first half of 2022. When I hopped back on my 450 with fresh suspension & instantly felt much better on the suspension than my 250's. I even hopped on my 250 the other week to get some corner practice in & I still would say i prefer my Showa on my 450 than my kyb on my 250.

All my sets are done by PC.

I wish the retail version looked more like the prototype cause it looks like it has more material around the sealing edge.  This is a DT1 filter in the stock cage assembly with the backfire screen removed.  Really would like a domed cage so the extra surface area of the aftermarket filter isn't lost when it sucks air in.

IMG 7310 0Was going to say that looks like a DT1 filter and very much unlike the one I ordered from them. The filter I got looks very cheap and thin compared to that one.

that does look much better! wish they would add more material on the bottom  of the filter, kind of like that prototype one that was posted.

This! And is that green bio NoToil too? In my experience, the bios are not the best for heavy use like that...Maxima FFT or Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil (non-aerosol version, full thick) only for my recommendations.

I do alot of soul riding.

That's Twin Air oil, I learned my lesson on No Toil.

Track was dry that dry, usually not so bad.

It will use an aluminum fitting at the water pump very simulator to what we have made for YZF’s for many years.
