Best suspension shipping method

I use zip ties with my gun case. 

I shipped mine by putting my hard case back in the cardboard box it came in. I know it sounds backwards, but UPS can charge an extra fee for items not in a cardboard box. MO to Texas was $46 for UPS ground using PirateShip.

If you use a gun case I would wrap in paper or if the plastic gun case came in a cardboard box, cut the box and turn it wrong side out.  Cover it up so it doesn’t look like a gun case.  Reason being, not everybody likes guns and people will assume it’s a gun and may not treat it with the best of care.  I’ve traveled with world with gun cases big game hunting.  May not be a big deal with UPS or Fedx but I’ve seen baggage handlers at airports abuse gun cases beyond believe.  I have two busted up gun cases in my attic to prove it.

The other side is also true-there are those in the shipping industry who like guns a little too much (or more accurately, the $$$ they can bring on the street) and will steal anything that looks like it could contain a firearm. Suddenly your package is “lost in transit.”

With regard to the insurance mentioned by another post…I’ve heard too many stories of the major carriers declining coverage to believe it’s actually worth it, unless what I was shipping was valuable enough that I’d get an attorney involved if it was lost/damaged/stolen. I know of one case where one of the “big two” carriers actually ran over the package leaving the delivery residence, and even the pic with the dually tire marks wasn’t enough to get them to honor their coverage.

Flambeau rifle case #6451SC-1 will fit both forks and a shock with the exception of ones with a sideways reservoir (like certain year yz's and crf's) and are $19 at Walmart. As far as shipping goes USPS has the lowest theft rate of firearms and are actually handled with great care if you send it in a rifle case, along with them having the lowest shipping rates for larger items like rifle cases. 90%+ of the problems we see when shipping with rifle cases comes from UPS and FedEx, with the remaining 10% for USPS and they're usually more addressing issues then theft or loss. The one catch with USPS is that most shops are not set up to receive components with them because it usually requires having an employee or the owner travel to the post office to receive it instead of it being dropped off with their mail. I'm lucky to have my shop on main street and am just a block down from the post office, so I just walk down there every day and grab everything and walk back to the shop but it's rarely like that, so call the shop you're working with and see if that's even a possibility before you send it off that way over UPS or FedEx.   

I sent my suspension to FC in Pennsylvania in a rifle case.  They sent my stuff back in cardboard boxes.  I had to call them to get them to return my case.  

Rifle cases have worked for years.
