BTW, I think it would be interesting for all MX riders/musician to post themselves doing the N.Anthem. Beginners and Pros.

I'm a singer and guitar player, have been since age 13.....many years ago.....lol.

I try to stay out of the whole national anthem thing but I will say that it is the most nerve racking song to sing in the world.
Everybody knows it and since it is usually sung acapella if you mess up at all.....it is very obvious.

I went into a friends studio and recorded a version for the track I work at so I won't have to sing it all the time.

back in my high school garage band days, we thought it would be a "rad" idea for me to do the national anthem on guitar. The 2 shows I did it, I fucked up. Embarassing moments for sure.

oh, I did. First time I just repeated the "oh say can you see" part one time too many... the 2nd, I brain farted, forgot what to play next, paused, said "sorry" into the mic. The drummer was quick to break into the first song to save the awkward moment...

Somebody who has never touched a guitar could learn that song in less than a week. I'm down for posting a vid, but not of that song.

Any anthem song is one of the least songs I would care to learn! *sheez*

And I've done my fair share of playing/recording, look up [the now defunct] Progressive Metal band Mayadome. Two full-lenght albums, recorded in 96 & 99 on two different US-labels (the first one being on Mike Varney's Shrapnel Records).

Other then that, a couple of various Tribute CD's.

Thread asked for musicians - not guitar players.

I am a pretty damn good HS Choir director, and there is not a song that I have ever taught to students that has more pitfalls and traps than the National Anthem... The best of the best have trouble with it.

That being said - takes as much stones to sing the National Anthem in front of a crowd as to post the kind of lap times our professional racers do for our entertainment. Just sayin.

i understand the point being made about how hard it can be to perform in front of those crowds but lets be real if your career is as a professional musician, you should come to the table prepared. Now i did not see the "carrie" version but the Ace Frehley version was a pathetic joke.

Playing it straight is pretty easy. Adding your own "thing" to it is where it can get ugly. Singing it is a whole 'nother story. I am a crap singer anyway, but that song requires way more vocal range than I have.

I played in a pop-punk band called Summerside. We were together for about 2 years. Got signed to Bullion records in Japan, played on Warped Tour 06 for a few weeks and then promptly broke up. Never attempted any anthems though.......I say leave that to ACE. I always was told Kiss sucked live.
