While we’re on electric talk, have you seen this new silicon technology they’re developing? Will replace the graphite components for a better performing battery. If you have seen it, have you looked into it at all for your conversions?

FWIW - Funbike Center here in SD had a Varg on the showroom floor a couple weekends ago. In person, it looks like a quality build and I'm sure it's fun to ride. @13K, it just puts it further out of the reach of people with limited means. Bottom line for me....the sounds/smell of riding/racing/spectating are a key factor. Without that, the sport is dead in my eyes.

Test ride a Stark....sure, I'd test ride one and like I said earlier, I'm sure it's "fun" to ride. No sound, no smell, electronic nanny software. I test rode a Zero street bike years back. Came away impressed by the torque, power. ...but riding it left me with a hollow feeling. No shifting, no clutch, no sound of ripping thru thru gears, no beautiful exhaust note. Hard pass.
I'm not into doing 20 minute "lap" riding anymore. When I go riding, I'm out all day putting in many miles of trails. Something no electric bike is ever going to be able to do.

Well, I'm glad at least one person actually listened and enjoyed it for what it was.
Contrary to what seems to be popular believe we're actually in competition with Stark and if they were to go out of business it would probably benefit us, but the bottom line is their bike is really good and we're not going to deny that fact. I love riding mine and would never turn anyone away from what I think is a great product, and they serve a bit of a different market than us. Having adult conversations about how electric can be integrated into racing is the first step towards making sure we don't go through another 2-4stroke type transition, and I don't see any reason why it can't add an exciting new element to the races if we do it correctly. It's already happening in Endurocross and Motoclimb with a lot of success.
I'm definitely not an expert on emerging battery tech, but from the video you linked that looks really promising. It will probably be quite a bit of time before the newer technologies are economical enough for motorcycle applications, but I'm sure 10-15 years from now we'll be looking back at the bikes we're building today and laugh at how we thought they were any good haha. There are some newer cells available that we're experimenting with, but like everything else they come at a premium price point. What we may end up doing is offer two versions of the kit, one with the current (cheaper) battery and one with the newer battery with longer range, that way customers can decide if the increased capacity is worth the extra cost for the type of riding they plan to do. The kit is getting close though, just a few more minor parts to design and then some organizational exercises to perform before we can release! I was super impressed with it at the final Endurocross round last weekend, I still suck at EX but the bike was incredible even at my skill level.
You may be looking to line your wallet and you may be providing a dedicated experience but your not building a bike that will compete on a level playing field with ICE and your not saving the planet.

Not many Stark buyers are buying the bikes because it will "save the planet" we know it wont. I want one because it is adjustable to be faster than my 450 or as slow as my xr100. I'll race flat track on it at 80hp, take it through the forest at 40hp, and do slow wheelies around the back yard at 20hp.....The planet is not dying any faster due to humans anyway, thats the real propaganda.
I'm sorry, can you point to anywhere in any of my posts, or within the podcast that I originally posted, where I or anyone else even remotely hinted at the idea that we believe we're saving the planet riding E-bikes? Never, not even once, have I said anything resembling that. We also very much proved that we built a bike on a level playing field with gas bikes, illustrated by the fact that I finished 9th out of 18 bikes (all others being gas powered) with rider skill being the limiting factor. Results are available on the Endurocross website if you'd like to fact check this.

Who do you think is going to pay for charging stations? You think the government is going to subsidize dirt bike tracks to install them? Or do you think they will have to raise their entry fee to offset that cost? What makes you believe in the long term future they will be more popular when there’s only a very small group on here continually pushing this bs? The consumer will always determine that, and here on western slope Colorado, I’ve never seen one on the single track because our trails are too long for a battery. Unless you actually believe the BLM is going to install charging stations along trails.

So JM485, I've got an actual question for you, one that lies a bit outside the 8th-grade fart-joke gay-bashing level this thread has been hopelessly stalled at.
First, a couple points I think are worth making.
Point 1: As electric bikes become more mainstream, companies like FMF and Pro Circuit will not have the ability to achieve the revenues/profits they have up 'till now because the need for exhausts will diminish.
Point 2: Both those companies already have tremendous experience working with various metals and welding techniques.
SO:
Do you think the future aftermarket world will be dominated by:
A. Battery companies like the one you're involved with that produce retrofitting motors for existing bike chassis.
B. Companies like FMF and Pro Circuit who will build custom frames for existing electric motors.

That’s cool you are future proofing the conversion to some degree. Watching this whole Surron aftermarket explosion and seeing what is capable, I’m very curious where the aftermarket will go with the Stark. We’re not too many years away from seeing e-dirtbikes from the bigger manufacturers in showrooms and laptops as a regularly used tool at the track. We’re in that development stage and it’s cool to watch it all unfold. Reminds me of when Doug Henry debuted the YZ400 except this time we have way more information about what’s going on.
