but..... he's looks to have a better shot at winning it his rookie year than Blubba did... and if he can pull it off (which he looks to have the starts and just raw speed to do), he'd be the only other person walking planet earth that has except MC...... pretty elite territory there...

Blubba shot at eliteness this year, having a perfect season, is already gone....

Ryan can do it, as can Villy or Bubbles...

Thing is can and will everyone stay healthy, it's a grind, everyone's body will break down to an extent. As far as I've seen, Ryan needs to put on a few more pounds of bacon to have the reserves he'll need for later in the races.

Whoever has the most points at the end, wins!

I don't really see MC's record ever being in serious jeopardy. Things are different now and the top riders have more obstacles in the way of winning races. Faster bikes, tougher more technical tracks, longer season, more pressure to perform and more riders capable of stepping up to challenge. Not taking anything away from MC, I'm still a huge fan, but things are just so much different these days.

I am always amazed by how quickly people jump to compare up and coming guys to the legends. Dungey may turn out to be better than Mcgrath but until he has more than 1 win are you not being a BIT premature?

Two races in and you guys are saying he has a chance to be the SECOND guy ever to win in the first year next to MC...I just want to know if everyone forgot what happened last year against one of the most consistent guys in SX history. If james can do it against Reed why would you think a rookie would have a better chance?

1. Because Dungey has already shown he can run with Stewart

2. Stewart is now injured, although how badly remains to be seen.

3. Dungey and Villopoto are likely to only get faster as the year progresses.

That's why.
1. Dungey showed one race he could keep up with james. And qualifying times don't mean shit, reed qualified close to james last year at every round and we know that didn't make a difference.

2. That is correct and none of us know how bad, this to me is the only unanswered question about james. Dungey could crash Saturday and be done for the year or six weeks like chad.

3. As is James, and who is to say RV won't get more speed then dungey as the year goes on?

So there are TOO many variables to say this championship is a lock for the dunge.

No one has ever kept up with James unless he wanted them to. He can turn the speed on whenever he wants.

I think he could possibly handle Stewart and Reed straight up.....Villo will probably get faster. The next McGrath? Wow, even Carmichael and Stewart couldn't pull that one off.

One thing we will see this year is how far dungey will push it to try and run with james if his pace is faster. Reed would try for a few laps and then back it down because he had a huge cushion over 3rd. Dungey may fall victim to a few crashes trying to push and that could be a deciding factor as far as the rookie mistakes go.

umm no. RC could. Heck, roncada did too.

I like james, but his speed has limits like everyone else. He wasn't behind dungey all A1 cause he wanted to make ryan feel good.

1986 - Competes in first amateur race - age 15.

1987 - Wins first amateur race, Loretta Lynn Classic - age 16.

1988 - Turns Pro - age 17.

1989 - Wins four West Coast races for Pro Circuit - age 18.

First MX gate drop to winning sx races in 3 years.

Who are you referring to? McGrath's first 125 win was Vegas in 1990 and he didn't win again until Anaheim 1991?
