1978 Haspin Acres. Holeshot the 250 novice class and led for a lap before going off the track into the picnic tables (ouch).

1978 YZ250E (one of the best stock bikes ever made).

Later I calmed down, and became a pretty decent rider. Was in tremendous condition and way too reckless.

1973 on a Honda SL70, got 22nd in the 3rd heat of 80s. I would have been 9 at the time.

Took me three years to get a 5th place trophy. When I brought it home, my Mom said it was stupid that anyone but the winner got a trophy. I threw it away.

Back then there was only a handful of classes and we raced three twenty minute motos. Sometimes there would be over 100 in my class. Those were the days!

Golden Eagle... I tasted a little of that dirt before. Winter series race if I'm not mistaken.

Summer of 78' Friday night Indian Dunes International Track.

AME Beginner class, 3 races and they bumped you, period.
The 78250CR Husqvarna and I Holeshot, got stuffed hard in the first turn.
Was wearing borrowed boots 2 sizes larger, right boot came off in someones front wheel, I remember running around franticly looking for it.
Finished back of the pack 1st moto, mid pack the next.
The butterflies were strong that night, and every race after.

Winn, I could hear that place from my house. I am restoring a 76 mx125 yamaha, and when I went to clean the frame there was still some of that clay packed in the frame.
Eagles is where Randy from Dade got his start in race promotion and Bill West also promoted there also.

1970, flat track on 125 Yammie (AT2?). Don't remember how it turned out, but I sure didn't win. Had a lot of fun, though.

Feb 1972. Hodaka B Model... rode it to the races and took off the headlight/tailight and installed the number plate.

Finished 3rd and got $5. They didn't give trophies at that track, only $$.

1975 in Medford WI home now to the parking lot of Tombstone Pizza. It was a great track back then.

XR75 and finished second to last. Classic picture laying around somewhere with me wearing my moms driving gloves, denim jacket and cordaroy pants because it was a mud race.

I was so embarrassed but at the same time happy to be racing, so for the next race, my dad put real numbers on my bike and got me the classic Honda gear complete with leathers.

Oh yeah! Real nice retro look but no Lucas electronics and I bet they don't leak oil. If I was going to get a street bike that would be it.

1974 - OCIR - 125 Beginner class on a TM125 - 3rd place for the night.

[color=red:cd3eb]I started late in life. October of 2001. Elk Run Raceway in Viola, WI. 250C-5th place and Sportsman-6th place. I owned a 1998 KX250 back then.

I wanted nothing to do with racing, but a friend pretty much made me. I just wanted to be the guy racers dislike, the kid beating the snot out of the bike, having no talent at all. Oh, how things change dramatically... I wouldn't trade the experiences for the world, I'm hooked to the sport, the adrenaline, and the great people I meet![/color:cd3eb]

Cool stories.

My first was 1978 in Bend Oregon, Crossup raceway. 76 CZ 250 Falta Replica, I was 14 and holeshot the turkey class but promptly got blown off the track by properly jetted jap bikes which would actually stay in in gear.

LMAO - didn't anyone ever tell you that CZ stopped developing bikes in '73? After that it was BNG or a paint job <img class= " title="Laughing"><img class= " title="Laughing">

1986. 12yrs old on a 1984 CR60. County Line Raceway in Tuscaloosa, AL. Raced two year and older class. I was the only one in the class. All I had to do is finish and I got a 5 foot 1st place trophy. We started with the 60cc class (open). I pulled the holeshot and the chain broke in the first turn. No master link - no trophy. I was hooked.
