I haven't received the letter, but I noticed my bike has been slightly hard to start last few times I rode.
Is it a 2022? Hopefully this update will fix that.
Yes it's a 2022. Just turned 40 hours. I'm wondering if I'll get the letter.
I got a letter for my 2022 Kx 250. Waiting on the letter for the 450. It’s a recall for certain batch #’s of fuel pumps possibly causing hard start issue’s.

How can I tell if my bike is an affected one? I just bought my 2022 KX250 a month ago and I’m noticing it’s harder to start than my last e-start Husqvarna. Idk what qualifies as “hard to start” though. My bike still starts up it just takes an extra click or two n maybe a dab of throttle it seems.
Just gotta wait for the letter? I feel like my purchase hasn’t even gone through Kawasaki’s system yet.
It has most certainly "gone through the system" or what it's called on the dealer end, warranty registered.
You can input your VIN on Kawasaki's website to see if your VIN is affected.

Thank you. I put my VIN in and my bike is affected. I made an appointment with my local dealer.
Anybody take their scooter to a dealer for this?
I got the letter but I’ve never held the the start for more than a second or two before it turned over. I’d rather not make a trip to the dealer.
I took my 450 and son’s 250 to the dealer. You can call them and run the serial number on the pump (viewable under the tank without removing anything) to see if yours is affected. I made an appointment with my dealer and they fixed it within an hour. I was impressed by the dealer (Suzuki/ kawasaki of carol stream, il). I don’t like anyone working on my bikes exempt me
For anyone that has a bike that is affected in the recall, I’d suggest you replace the fuel pump as recommended. I know it may be an inconvenience but if the fuel pump decides to fail the bike will lose power, and not ideal on the face of a jump. Take it for what it’s worth.
I didn't think mine was going to start last weekend, I should be getting the recall done this week.
Is it the 8 characters toward side on the rear of the tank?
Got about 20 hrs on my 22 450, no letter! & No problems starting!
What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump? I'm wondering if I'm having this issue on my 2023 KX450. The last 3 times I've ridden it, it's gotten harder to start where I have to hold the button a lot longer (warm or cold) and roll on the throttle as it would just crank without firing with no throttle. Today at the track, I stalled in a corner and it took me a couple minutes to get it fired up. I wasn't holding the button for a long time (just a 3-5 seconds and then released and tried again) but I tried everything and it acted like it was out of gas even though I new it had a half tank. I finally pulled out the choke and had to do that while cracking the throttle before it would fire. It was fine the last few laps but I was nervous hitting the bigger jumps. I got back to the pit and tried to restart it and again it took several minutes. Next session I rode to the start and mistakenly shut it off to wait for our session and it would not start at all so I had to push it up a big hill to make my way back to the pits. What was weird that time was that after trying to start it for a minute, the button did nothing as if the battery was totally dead even though it didn't make that slower crank sound like when your battery is getting close to dying. It just went from cranking to nothing when hitting the button but once I got to the top of the hill (a couple minutes passed), I tried the button and it turned over as if I had a full battery again. Does the starter have an auto shutoff if it gets hot? I check the battery cables and they are nice and tight and it would crank in the pits but not fire. I got home a couple hours later and after it had cooled off, it fired right up after 2 seconds. I've only got 20 hrs on it and this started at about 12-15 hrs. A guy at the track said he thinks my valves are too tight but doing a search, I came across this thread and am wondering if it's the fuel pump.
It's lame because my 2013 KX450 has over 100 hrs and without ever adjusting the valves, it still fires every time by the 2nd kick even if it's sat for a couple months. Talk about a bullet proof bike that has never given me the slightest bit of trouble over the past 10 years. Looks like I'll be riding that one again until I get this one sorted which is fine as the PSF1 forks are so damn good!
Mine did the same and left me pushing back to the truck.
How many times did you push your Suzuki back to the truck??
I have never had a Zuki let me down.
It the last couple years I’ve had my Austrian steeds let me down multiple times..
I typed in my bike's VIN and it doesn't sound like mine is part of the recall. Do you have to put in the bike's serial number or the fuel pumps? For those who've had issues, does mine sound like a fuel pump issue or something else? A guy at the track said it sounded like a valve issue like a valve stuck causing lack of compression but when I told him it had 20 hrs on it, he 2nd guessed that. I'm hoping it's not an engine problem after this few of hours. I'm good about oil changes and filters and haven't seen a spec of dirt inside the intake as I grease the lip of all my filters.
Never did she let me down.
My kawi quit after only 3 laps and I was pissed.
Pit Row
I looked up my Vin and apparently it wasn't one of the bad ones. I still got one from Kawi. I did get the dealer to order the pump in advance so I didn't lose ride time.
Did they cover the cost and install it or just give you the pump and you installed it? If the bike is cold, it seems to fire up but the trouble I had the other day started during the 2nd session when the bike was hot. I don't know if they'll warranty the pump if they can't replicate the issue with it being cold in the shop so I don't know if I should just buy a new pump.
The shop covered it and I brought them the tank. I called and told them I had one of the bad pumps on the service bulletin. I had trouble reading the number because I cleaned the area with brake cleaner and it wiped away a letter or 2.
Mine started getting hard to start randomly. Sometimes cold, sometimes when hot. Bike ran fine until I shut it off and the pump decided to quit.
There might be a cut out for starter motor temperature however I had a 2019 and the start switch started to have issues so I bought a new one. When I swapped them out I took apart the old one and it was full of dust/dirt. Cleaning it helped a lot.
It is also possible your in tank filter is too dirty and restricting flow to the pump although that seems to be a KTM problem more than a Kawasaki one.
So did the new pump cure this issue entirely?
Damn sure did, bike has been running good.
That's good to hear! I have a fuel pump rebuild kit arriving soon and I'll rebuild it. My 2013 KX450 has been so dependable so hopefully this is just a one off issue with my 2023 KX450 or I may have to consider switching brands. You'd figure that the 3rd year in a new generation, they'd have all the bugs worked out but maybe they just got a bad batch of fuel pumps.
Good to know. Since my works edition and 23yz got stolen, im seriously considering a kx because theyre 4grand cheaper out the door than another yz.
