So, we take off from St. Croix yesterday and they tell us of the "new" rules on the flight.
No getting up within 1 hour of the destination.
No having ANYTHING on your lap within 1 hour of the destination.
No services within 1 hour of the destination.
So the pilot says when there is 1-1/2 hours left, he will make an announcement so people can use the restroom and get back to their sets for the "one hour out" rule...
1-1/2 hours before landing...he comes on and says that the new rules have been lifted and it will be "business as usual"... Nice.

They also said that the inflight internet would be disabled as part of the new rules too... lol
Maybe they figured terriorst would google "how to make a bomb" while in the middle of a flight.

If you let everyone up and the news you heard was bad, you could get in trouble. If you keep people in their seats for no good reason that's bad too. Believe me, the flight crews just do what's in the company manual. Busting stupid regulations is a shitty way to lose you job/ticket....
I dont want to say eliminate freedom but shit man. What about the stories of being kidnapped in a plane for hours on end and not being able to get up, leave or whatever. I realize congress just made a new law for this, ultimately its a open market. If I pay you to fly and you dont fly let me off the fucking plane so I can make plans. 14 Hours on the tarmac you can rent a car/boat or dirigible and get there quicker.
Increase flight deck security, more Air Marshalls, profiling, whatever... just don't let the pilots have guns.

A pilot busting out his Glock and coming through the door like Buckaroo Bob, is accomplishing little more than compromising the sealed integrity of the flight deck and allowing a bad guy to take control of the plane....9/11 redux
Pilots are pilots, not cops. They need to stay in their sealed cocoon and maintain the sealed integrity of the flight deck in order to land the plane.
If a whackadoo blows the plane up, bullet wasn't going to stop it anyway
You would think Al qaeda or whoever they are blaming for this is just toying with the US.
No carry-ons bigger than a laptop or laptop sleeve. I ended up hand-carrying my laptop onto the plane, and packing my backpack into my big Ogio bag. (Luckily I'd taken it with me to carry presents on the way up. My normal luggage had already been consolidated inside.)
Women were required to check large purses.
No bathroom for the last hour.
The only positive from it? They waived the usual baggage fees.

They are toying with us and seeing how we react to it, they are probably already plotting a next move. Which is pretty damn scary to think about.
I lived through 911, it wasnt fun and i would undergo extra security at an airport to ensure safety. No one forces anyone to fly..
Flap overspeed by 1 knot? Don't even bother calling OPS, because MX just got an E-Mail right from your bird.
Excessive speed on touchdown? Same thing. Over 200kn under a class Bravo? Screwed.
As far as the over-temp issue, I know there are PLENTY of guys who get busted trying to pull a one engine taxi and don't get the 5 minutes in of idle due to shorter than normal taxi times. Fire up that #2 and push it up..... In the new airplanes momma get's an email when you do this too.
I was in the back on a flight last week and the CA was flying, we landed in LGB and the guy slammed on MANUAL BRAKING, my head almost hit the seat in front of me. We made an early taxiway and went to the gate. A few days later there was reports of multiple excessive brake temps on landing in LGB. The very first airplane comes in, slams on manual braking and makes the very first exit off the runway. It was the same guy that was flying the airplane I was deadheading on last week. He ended up getting written up, but nothing will be done because he can always use his "captains authority" to stop the aircraft in time.
This is just an example of how closely crews are watched these days, no information is volunteered unless an ASAP report has been filed, and the only way these problems are caught is by the ACARS 'cry home to momma' data.
