Does Villopoto's contract run through '10 or is it a 3 year deal going through '11?

Reed's deal is through '11 I believe and James' contract with L&M expires this year which, I guess means after SX. I'd guess that James is gonna need to show that he has this thing under control so he doesn't take a major pay cut in his next deal.

I think we are going to see a new level from Reed because of Ryan; especially Ryan being in the same truck. Reed will be more willing to ride the edge...or he could let RV take his chances on the edge trying to ride with James.

Worried that I'm not going to make it to the Atlanta SX again...one of these years.

Word on the streets is that L&M has been offered a huge contract to develop the new 2011 Husqvarna TC450 and they are going to have James Stewart test ride it in the middle of the Supercross series to decide if he likes it and their going to switch.

Husqvarna has big money from BMW these days.

RV is not going to help Reed rise to another level. You can or you can't in this sport and Reed has proven that cannot ride at the level that is needed to beat Stewart. Stewart is a freak of nature.

RV is going to have a hard time beating Dungey. Which he won't IMO.

Theres nothing wrong with the Honda. It just needs a rider. 100% rider 0% bike.

Honda hasn't hired a true title threat in the Big Boy class since Ricky left, maybe it is time they did.

Dude they have Millsack, didn't he like win a lites title or somthing one year? There best hope was Tedesco and for consistency Shorty is the man. Any how I think if Ryan was smart he would stay away from Honda. Look at what happened to RC, if I remember correctly in one of the mag interviews he was not real happy with the way he left Honda.

Some might say that stewart must not care about his legacy because he could have an even more incredible one if he were to ride outdoors. Seems like money talks with that dude more than anything.

i would say thats more of a longevity issue. the team doesnt have an outdoor deal.who pays for it?and who is there to race him?if he did everybody would bitch because it's a 1 man show.

So you think it would be a one man show outdoors? Mikey was closing the gap every race in 08 and Ryan should be right there too. I think Stewart would have his hands full with those two outdoors now. I wish he would race outdoors if for no other reason than he is fun to watch. Only getting to see him 4 months of the year is a bummer.

i would say most likely a 1 man show.ryan would give him a fight every now and then but not every week.he has yet to ride the 450 for a full season in eithier theater.i dont question his speed at all.i question his condition.can he fight 16 rnds.then 24 moto's?i like to belive he's done his home work but we just havent seen it yet.and mikey was riding way over his head trying to get comfortable at that speed and that bit him in his ass

That's silly, like saying McGrath didn't care about his legacy. The guy has won outdoors and proven he's the best. He doesn't have anything left to prove, if he doesn't want to do it anymore he doesn't have to.
He's got enough money that he can just do what makes him happy, he doesn't need the extra scratch of winning the outdoors titles. I think he has learned faster than anybody that you can't please 'em all. No matter what he does there will still be haters.. So f it.

I'd love to see it as much as the next guy but he doesn't owe us shit.

He didn't prove anything by winning the 2008 Outdoors except he was the best that year.
He didn't win 2005-2007 because he wasn't the best or was hurt. One year doesn't prove your the best or Chad Reed would be the best now or Grant Langston was the
best before Stewart. Winning year after year is proving your the best like McGrath and
Carmichael did in their careers. James is the fastest man on a dirtbike like so many
like to point out, but he certainly hasn't proven he's anywhere close to the champions
that Carmichael and McGrath were. We will all have to wait and see what James legacy
will be in this sport. Right now he is the current Supercross champ by 4 points, hardly
a dominant margin.

Putting it like that it does make me think that he needs to show up for some more outdoors races so he can be called "the fastest champion on the planet" . Good perspective you just gave.

While I agree with many of your points...I have to say that you're overlooking something that's the obvious truth:

Only -1- rider has CONSITENTLY RIDEN PAST/BEAT EVERYONE...again, consistently...aka..virtually ALWAYS.

JS7.

You can remind me that he has lost some races, to which I'll say, "Go ask Ryan."

To Ryan's credit: I belive that he's the only one, or one of the very few, who has figured it out. He's gotta take it to James. Period.

He's got to get good starts and ride his ass-off!

This was obvious to me at Vegas/USSX.

He looked damn good, all things considered. He'd just come back from his injury/rehab and he looked good. Again, Damn good. He even surprised his gramps during the 1st practice.

RV is going to have a hard time beating Dungey. Which he won't IMO.
So what your saying is that Dungey can get faster, but Reed can't. Nothing you ever say
makes sense, IMHO.

NO disrespect to any of the riders but if James were to show up and race outdoors he would win....plain and simple. Maybe not EVERY moto but he would emerge the champion, his speed is unreal and when challenged he will just go faster IMO. It would be great to see JS, RV, MA, RD and CR etc all go head to head outdoors and it would be one of the best seasons ever.....Probably wont happen but if I had to pick a winner outdoors w/o James it would be RV all the way, he won't go 24-0 but I do believe he can take the outdoor title 2010.

Uncle...as for the 4 point comment about James being the champoin is from his DNF at the first round if he had even rode to a 5th place finish the gap would've been A LOT bigger. He did win 11 of the 17 rounds correct? I'd say that a dominating performance.

Umm, Barcia, Wharton and to an extent Tomac are all young riders that they have invested in. Payoff will come in a year or two...

Last time Honda paid for a championship quality rider, they were booed non-stop. Yet people now shit on Honda for trying to bring their own riders up through their system.

People are too emotional to see clearly.

In all fairness to Honda...

They've paid good money to the likes of Tadesco, Milsaps, Short, Townley...

All to no avail. Is that Honda's fault or is it the simple fact that only -1- rider has given them what they paid for?

Short.

Townley had some bad luck.

Milsaps and Tadesco seem to have been "distracted" and neither of them lived up to their potential.

One thing I can fualt Honda with: Paying too much for mediocrity...and...they're not alone. Same goes for most of the "Factory Teams".

ALL of the Teams should have a decent "base-salary" and a substantial "contengincy"...

Pay for results.

Best Team for the Money in 2009?

Rockstar/Makita Suzuki.

In 2010?

We'll see.

My moneys on Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki-Bill Keefe (Remember, Best Team for the Money).

Worst Team for the Money?

I'm of the opinion that a few Teams will STILL suffer the wrath of "Paying for Mediocrity".

The Question needs to be asked:

"How many riders are worth a coupl'a million a year...or two?"

I believe the current members of that now smaller club are (Without implying their "worth"):

JS7
Dungey
Reed
The Hunter
Grant(?)

Definition-$1 million/year or more "salary" paid to the rider before ANY contigencies, secondary sponsors/contracts, etc.

Example: JS7's salary/fee for just signing and racing with San Manuel. NOT including Red Bull, Answer, Bell, AlpineStar, Oakley...etc.

As for those NOT on the list? I'm of the opinion that A LOT fo riders are ridng for less...a lot less...in 2010.

But, hey, I could be wrong.
