Does anyone know why Ironman got rid of the absolutely massive uphill triple? The giant hill is the best obstacle on the track for sure, it doesnt make sense why they cut that part out. It used to be where they jumped up onto the hill and then jump back down like they do now, but then at the bottom they turned around and tripled back up it. Now instead of going back up they just do a few back to back turns on flat ground before linking back up with the normal track. It was a massive uphill triple that really made the track stand out. It’s still one of my favorite tracks, but I just don’t know why they would get rid of it.
Heres a video of it, this thing was HUGE
And here’s a vid taken from next to the triple of herlings leading Tomac at Ironman
The triple was massive. I'm sure it was from a safety standpoint. These riders risk enough as it is
It couldn’t have been any worse than laroccos leap. Plus it looks to be basically the same exact size as the uphill triple at mount st Martin at Millville. If those are ok then I dont see why this would be so much worse.
The powers that be love to suck the fun out of things.
The new "sky shot" jump is one of the coolest jumps I've ever seen! Very safe too.

Didn’t they take it out a couple of years ago? I agree that they should’ve kept it. It was a cool jump that wasn’t actually all that dangerous since it’s up hill.
Yea it’s been gone for a few years now. Looking at google earth it seems that they’ve built a road where that section of the track was. Could they have removed it not due to safety reasons but in order to create a new road? You can see they put down a lot of silver colored dirt where the turn after the triple used to be.
This is how the track originally was
Then they changed it to this.
You can see above it appears they’ve built a new road where the track used to be.
Eliminating that section allowed for more room for ... VIP tent area.
Sure it's a 'for profit' business & all, but the Ironman track over the years has gone from great viewing angles for those with general admission tickets to ; pay 5 times over that if you want the best location(s).
Lots of other tracks have done the same thing, but it's especially noticeable at this track due to it's comparatively compact nature.
The worst offense though ; They assault your ears for the entire day with a PA system @ 200Db thats either playing bad 90's rock or having 'megawatt' screaming endlessly. DC ; your dad would not approve. Stop the madness, you know better.
That’s unfortunate if that’s why, it appeared that the triple was the favorite viewing area on the whole track.
I liked the original start that went to that uphill left hander around the tree.
Shorter lap times seem to be a common theme among track changes. In 2015 (which was not a mudder) the fastest times were 2:22. This year - 1:48.
Look how fast Herlings is!!
I miss the uphill triple... it was HUGE!
