I like the idea of the Barcia we saw in SX this year, especially just before the injury. He was charging, hitting podiums, showing serious speed and determination.
I'm a no on Webb, he just doesn't show the same speed outdoors as we used to see. Not sure what it is.
And if Barcia isn't showing that speed in the next 2 nationals, Plessinger is our guy.

I'll admit I'm not in the know with the nuances of the selection process for Nations so there may be other reasons, but it's been a damn good time watching him run it up there with the big dogs. As an American, I'd be proud having him represent us there, and I think his performance this year at least puts him in the conversation. That is, assuming not being a factory rider doesn't disqualify him from being able to go.

Probably because someone needs to cover the cost of racing overseas for him. Hefty price tag to foot that yourself.
We have riders that are performing better than him, enough of them that it hasn't trickled down to his position in the conversation.
Secondly, as someone else pointed out, it's an expensive trip. He would be expected to bring two completely fresh bikes to the race, spare suspension, spare engine, etc. More equipment than he probably has on hand and it's pricey to ship it all. If he's racing SMX at the time, he won't have enough spares to ship two bikes, race one here, and practice on one here. I think he only has two bikes in total.
The cost these teams eat to send equipment, support staff, and test there a few days prior...it can be 30-40k easily.
Austrian team riders have an advantage here because of the support system from the mothership over there, extra team testing vans to use, pit areas, etc.
The US would want to send riders that have a connection with a team that has a partner in Europe to support them.
If Sexton goes, he would pit with HRC Honda MXGP.
If Deegan goes, he'll likely pit with Kemea Yamaha, who buys some components from Star Racing and is the factory Yamaha MX2 team.
If Hampshire goes, he pits with Nestaan Husqvarna, the factory MX2 team for Husky.
Etc, etc, etc...
Makes sense! I had a feeling that played a massive part in it, but my curiosity was strong enough that I wanted to know for sure. Thanks for the info!

If Barcia is back and fit...and has the fire...he's in. He may not win but he's a known quantity. He gets results.
Sexton is our rocket. If he can focus...he can win. Not 100% lock but our best chance.
Deegan? He has shown great speed and real maturity and consistency, for a rookie. My only concern is...can he bring that package to the Nation's? He's earned the opportunity...he SHOULD go. Time to see how deep his talent really is.
Not saying he couldn’t do damage. But yeah his results aren’t great this year… and he crushed it the last time he rode for USA…

This is a very ropey team apart from Deegan. Plessinger is unpredictable and has yet to do as much as was expected of him in the 450s, and Hampshire has not given any indication he'll ever change and become consistent.
