Never having tried hillclimbing all I can say is it looks like it takes balls or no brains. Maybe both.

Those guys are crazy for sure, but it's still awesome to watch!

I've seen a bunch of European footage of hill climb competitions, and I can't get over how if you don't make it to the top there's a very good chance that your bike is toast as it tumbles violently towards the bottom of the hill!

I for one couldn't afford that particular aspect of cycliing! Smile

CR500s are the mopeds of hillclimbers.

All due respect, but there's nothing like some retarded, built-to-the-tits, 1000cc+ on nitro BMX framed bike shredding a fully chained steel-paddle tire all the way to the top of mount Everest..

I don't know who is crazier the guys climbing or the guys standing on the hill with catch hooks.

Definitely takes some sack.

The sound...the smell...the one-off parts...and some riders who can read a line with the best offroaders... Chase down a national hillclimb and let us all know what you think.Smile

All due respect, those Unlimited bikes are cool, and scary, but I posted the vid because I LOVE the sound of a 500cc two stroke single at full song.

No kidding guys, I grew up riding stuff like that on a gas line here in Alabama. Probably 15 or 20 miles of hill after hill. No run in the bottom. It took some real skill to climb some of this stuff.

I remember going over there as a kid on my XR80 and sitting at the top of some of the worst hills watching guys on YZ250s, TM360s, IT465sthe new XRs in the mid 80s. Those guys would show up in full riding gear and totally trash some great bikes. My dad always rode TT500s and his buds did too. He would just sit up on the top and turn the gas and almost idle all the way to the top.

I rode up those hills on XR80s and later on CR125s. I remember going back there in '98 when I got my first YZ400 thinking, this thing should be a breeze there. I was terrified. I remember going down hills thinking, "why and I here." Haven't been back since. It takes big stones, a lot of skill, and more practice to do that regularly.

A lot of the sandrail sounding one's are harly engines running on alcohol....I did hear some sort of sportbike engine in one of them too....... I have climbed some of the craziest shit at carnigie at the beginning of the altamont in the tracy mountains by livermore lab....you wanna climb some gnarly hills? Go there.....as I kid I rode there weekly and have been atop every single hill there they have the most amazing hillclimbing there stuff just like the video....Man I miss that place
