Hi Im wondering what you need to do to convert a 2012 KTM 125 SX to a 16/17 KTM 125SX/250SXF plastics. Has anyone ever done this or no how to do this please give any information! Thank you!
Just seems like a lot of work just for an aesthetic effect. Have you researched how much you can buy a used 2016 for?
As for why I would rebody it...I love this bike. 100% absolutely love it. Also, all of this body work, including OEM fender decals and stuff was $250. I have to remind myself that enjoying the ride is more important than having the new cool stuff. But if I can keep my bike - and - make it look like a new one, that's a no brainer to me.

This was almost exclusively KTM OEM parts, including $70 worth of stickers, $177 rubber air boot, and some other doo dads that you could trim out if you wanted to stay a little cheaper. Also it included a new air filter. If I were seriously interested, I would try and source a few parts used (like that boot!) and I'm confident I could do it for under a grand.
In my opinion, to keep a bike that I like and make it pass for a 2017 to an undiscerning eye is something to consider.
Whew! That was a mouthful. Anyway, I like most long and tedious amounts of f***ing around, I think it would be possible to do this with lots of customisation. Maybe I'll pony up and buy the airbox and start from there. And no - I don't have any interest in selling the 06 300XC for a new '18... it would make sense, but I own the bike, its in awesome condition, and as fast as I'll ever need.
Lot of work but it can be done not flawless but looks good 2016 500exc to 2017 Tld plastics in it around $350-$400
Plastics ofc but what else?

I’m just in the process of doing the 2015 to 2017 conversion so far everything has lined up, used basically tank and subframe and airbox and obviously plastics and seat. So far so good just have to work on exhaust and little bits tomorrow
Has anyone gone from 2017 to 2022 plastic?
It's a pretty simple conversion as the frames are very similar. All you need is a tank, subframe, airbox, seat and plastics with random little bolts thrown in too. This bike is approaching 500 hours so it was worth it to me to give it a refresh since I'm likely to just keep it forever at this point!
Mixed thoughts on this- nice conversion, but the cost to do it, versus the 2016 doesn’t look much different than the 2020. Not sure the advantage..
I have a 2016 KTM- the main issue with those is the right side number plate tends to catch on my boot and melts along the bottom next to the silencer.
For me it was worth it because it's the last carb enduro bike KTM made and I'll be holding onto this bike for many years. I'd already had it 6 years when I did the conversion. It didn't cost much more than I needed to spend anyway. I needed seat foam and a cover and the new seat was cheaper. I was going to Morocco so needed a desert tank so no problem getting one for the new shape, my subframe was slightly bent so I could justify that etc.
I definitely don't think it's worth doing just for the sake of doing it, for a 20 Vs 16 model KTM is only at most a 1k price difference here, you'd be a good chunk of the way there already by not doing the conversion
