So there seems to be a lot of debate on how Jett Lawrence would do against Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart in their prime, so since they're the only riders with perfect seasons and Jett looks like he's a serious contender to accomplish going perfect, who'd have the most points at the end of the season between the three if they had all started racing MX at the same time.   I limit it to MX, because we don't know how Jett will perform on a 450 in Supercross.

That pic of Stewart is sick!!! Reminds me of that time when he just made it SO fun to watch. He had style, speed, raced clean, and always did the impossible and everyone expected him to do it and he would ! Straight Unit!!

Stewart was like Jett on steroids!

Those other two are amazing, but Carmichael would win at least 16 motos and 8 overalls.

Jett puts 5 seconds on both of them by turn 2.

Nothing against The Hurricane, but he never had a perfect season.  I guess I could have created a poll with every great Motocross rider in History in their rookie season including Jeffrey Herlings to make it interesting, but I thought limiting to these three would keep it simple.

Ricky Carmichael is called the goat for a reason..

Jett is doing amazing, don’t get me wrong.. but if Chase and Eli were healthy, this season is looking very different.

If Chase, Eli and Jett had been racing against RC and JS the years they had perfect seasons, I think the 2002, 2004 and 2008 perfect seasons would look very different.  Do you think RC and James Stewart could have gone 24 straight wins against those riders.

So we have to remember the question is regarding their rookie season. Meaning we don’t know what they did after that.. so without the benefit of hindsight I would have to say Jett is looking the best.
But with the benefit of hindsight I just couldn’t take it away from Carmichael.

Im personally like Stewart the most, but I have to say Jett is basically the antithesis of Stewart and would frustrate he into mistakes.

In summary I voted Jett but do think RC would have him.

If you mean all three’s rookie premier motocross season, then from what we’ve seen so far this year, there’s no debate ; Jett’s way ahead. RC’s rookie win streak lasted one round and Stew never won an overall as a rookie.

But if you take it as a hypothetical match up, it’d be interesting. RC simply always found a way come out on top.

It's too hard to compare, the bikes are better and easier to be fast on, riders are better and the technical side is levels ahead and the training is better(thanks to RC), factory teams have 15 years of data since they raced.

The average rider speed now is soo many levels above than when RC and James were racing thats why we haven't seen rookies come in and dominate in recent times, every top 15 rider has very strong base.

Going off the eye test in terms of speed at outdoors RV, ET, Jett, Sexton perhaps KR would have them covered, if RC and James were in the same era I would expect them to be at the top, but comparing riders from then to now there is a big difference, we did have a small sample size of JS vs RV, when James beat RV James was still close to his prime and RV was a rookie, a few years later RV had everyone covered in MX including James who wasn't entirely the James of old but still very good so theres that.

You can argue that Jett actually has even with this depleted field more competition than RC and James due to how much better the riders are bikes are these days.

RC and James did it during a time where it took more skill to ride the bikes being 2 strokes and early 450s.

Not sure exactly what you’re asking, but hypothetically, if all 3 were the same age growing up racing each other from amateurs to pros, healthy and on equal equipment, it would be a toss up between RC and James, then Jett.

or are you comparing their rookie MX seasons 2000 RC, 2005 JS, 2023 Jett?

or their perfect seasons 2002/2004 RC, 2008 JS, 2023 Jett?

I'm comparing them in their Rookie seasons and picked these 3 riders, because two of them had perfect seasons and Jett Lawrence is making a serious threat towards one.   Just curious of how they'd stack up against each other in their initial rookie season jump from the lites to the premier class had they entered all at the same time.

Well then, like everyone is saying, they’re incomparable, apple to oranges, so many different circumstances, especially for James being on an outdated 250 2stroke against RC’s production rule works RMZ 450.

Obviously, Jett is having the better rookie season, but head to head to head, on equal equipment, in the same time period, I’ll still say it’s a toss up between RC and James, with Jett alittle ways back. Jett would be like Windham was in the RC and James era, maybe alittle faster.

As for RC and James, The best I can say is, RC never had a perfect season against James and James never had one against RC.

I would also be curious to know what age the people who voted are, and if they’ve seen all 3 race up close and in person. That will say alot about their opinions of the way they voted.

I was at Redbud this day in 2007 and also in 2006 at High Point. I’ve seen everyone from 1985 to present race live and these 2 guys were by far the fastest I’ve ever witnessed. It really was unbelievable. Video does not do it justice. I will say I’ve yet to see Jett race a 450 live though.

This.

I'm 52. I started going to the Glen Helen National in 1998, when RC was on a 125. I've seen live nationals pretty much every year since, but I've never seen Jett on a 450 in person.

Still, I think RC would garner the most points, hands-down. If that dude wasn't faster than Jett at the beginning of the season, he'd find a way to get faster and get it done. I think both these guys would beat James, long-term.

Can the Jett d-riders please stop this nonsense. Its getting old comparing a young man with great talent to a field of elder riders with a large gap to their talent. And comparing the greats to Jett when no one was hurt in their timelines, vs Jett's timeline has 5 guys hurt. Just stop, my brain hurts.

I'm sorry your brain hurts, I feel the same about all these awful James Stewart is the best threads.  I'll make sure I have a discussion with whomever is forcing you to click on these awful Jett threads.  Remember,  Freedom of Choice is what you got.

Seriously, where are all these threads saying James is the best. Are you talking about the announcing threads? Are you talking about the poll threads where everyone gives their opinion? I don’t get it man, what’d James do to you? You just made another thread inserting James into it with the intention of degrading James yet again, knowing damn well how shitty his rookie season was. Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

RC would dominate in my opinion. He took on a beat anyone who challenged him, from Supercross champions, to National and World Champions.  RC beat them all.

Relax!  posters can bag on Haiden Deegan, Jett Lawrence and Ricky Carmichael and you're as quiet as a church mouse, but the moment the mere mention of James Stewart and you immediately pull the card and think there's some sort of race issue going on. Got no problems with James Stewart, but his butt hurt, sensitive and annoying fans are humorous how easily they are triggered.

People have short memories.  In 2004 the only guys that were remotely close to RC were Reed, Windham and Vuillemin.  On any given round one of them might have finished within 30 secs of RC and the others were up to a minute behind.  Is that a strong field?

Same in 2002 - 2nd and 3rd in that series were Tim Ferry and Ezra Lusk.  Barely a handful of outdoor wins between them and no outdoor titles.

That’s not diminishing the achievement of RC, but it’s a reality that running a perfect season requires a somewhat weak field of opposition.

Triggered? Lmao, it seem you’re the one triggered by his fans! Again where are all these butt hurt fans you speak of that’s claiming James is the Goat? All I see is people giving their opinions about their favorite racer whether it be James, RC, Jett etc… where’s the hate for RC, Jett, or Deegan? I don’t see it, people may have a difference of opinion, but not hate! You’re delusional man.

And no one here talks shit about another rider over and over and over again or I would call them out. Like I said, one trick pony you are!

If you directly compare their respective rookie 250/450F years…

Ricky in 2000 took a while to properly get going.  Went 1-1 at GH but only won 6 out the first 12 motos, with a number of moto finishes off the podium and even went 12-12 at Rd 3 at High Point.  Caught fire the second half of the year though.

James had a terrible first year - only rode 7 of 12 rounds and only scored points in 7 of 14 motos.

Jett so far 10-0…

Ricky’s main competition was Windham, Tortelli and Vuillemin, all of whom took moto wins off him, so you’d say stronger competition.

You’d assume Ricky and James would take moto wins from Jett, but I think Jett would be far less likely to have bad motos.

My conjecture is a close battle across the season between Ricky and Jett, with James in it here and there but too inconsistent.

Please stop.  It’s obvious that anyone who questions this isn’t old enough to have watched RC.  Suppose your next question is how badly Jett would’ve whipped MC in SX in his prime.

What’s amazing is nowadays we think of riding a 250 smoker as being completely a handicap.  RC was still on the smoker and winning titles against guys like KDub on 450s.  The logic of today would say that is not possible
