2 strokes arent amazing

I skipped to Page 8, for now.

I like anything that needs to be ridden.  I have ridden bulls, horses, MTB's, DH MTB's, E-MTB's, electric dirt bikes, 2T dirt bikes, 4T dirt bikes, ADV bikes, road bikes, scrambler bikes, ATV's.... they were all fun in some way or another.

As riders, we need to change the way we think (looking at you, overweight vets).

We rationalize our physical fitness by "I need a different bike that's easier to ride." Instead of losing some weight, getting into shape, and being a safer better rider. That goes for 2 stroke or 4 stroke.

I've got too many hours to put in at work To do a tonne of gym time, after squeezing in a day a week / fortnight to get out on the bike, then clean it and properly maintain it plus family bikes alongside it.

Plus life is too short for food that's meant for rabbits or just lain tastes like shit... or nothing at all 👍

It’s funny that you mention that. The plan was to go get a new bike at any time, after the way I rode at the track (I rarely ride mx), I don’t deserve a new bike. So I won’t be getting one until I drop 20lbs 👍

It wasn’t just my fitness, all of the technique and form I’ve been working on off-road completely went out the window on the track. I felt like I never even had a chance to get into a correct body position by the time I needed to start braking. In the past I have ridden well at Glen Helen, but I have no business there once the ruts form

And I wasn't necessarily directing that at you. It just never fails, you see these rather husky 40 year olds on 450's that corner like snails them grab a handful of throttle and fly 100 feet. I cringe at the thought of someone like that hitting the deck.

I'm my 30's now moto has given me a new leaf on life. I enjoy exercise and have even got really into running/mountain biking which helps me be a better rider on top of living a more healthy fulfilling life.

I totally get you man, I know the folks you're talking about, "it must be the bike", or clearing things they really have no business clearing from a safety stand point cos the day they hit a little kicker and don't know what to do with it.... Sheesh 😬

Part of what I love about moto is, to a slightly varying degree by bike type, a fast dude will be fast on anything and a slow guy will be slow on anything. Again it varies slightly but you can't buy speed, by a substantial measure.

And same here, 35 and my main aim to get and stay fit is riding better and longer. It's helpful having something to work for and seeing real results 🙂

Sillyness abounds.

If you lift your 150 lbs twice in the same time as the 300 lbs is once, it's the same amount of effort.

Are you asking what he can lift once or twice? 😂

Not sure most folks who are focused on riding are trying to bench a ton though to be fair

For me, it's all about handling. I spent a great many years refining my riding skills, and for some reason they don't transfer over to a thumper as easily as they did for most people. Lots of riders just start out on 4-strokes for their first big bike now, so I guess it may be easier. I seriously cannot ride a 450 as fast as I can ride my 250t. Not in lap times, and definitely not in a battle between riders.

The engine braking on a 4-stroke wreaks havoc on the suspension and chassis during off-throttle moments. I find myself endoing in braking sections, going nose-heavy over jumps, and losing control due to the on/off nature of the power. The unpredictable stalling doesn't help; I've stalled every thumper I've ever ridden at least once. How does anybody ever adjust to those things? I'm honestly quite surprised that Doug Henry didn't say to the Yamaha engineers, "This YZ400F is a piece of shit. Don't waste your R&D money any further." I wish he had.

Clearly, people disagree with me or they wouldn't sell any Fs. I just cannot stand them. I'll never own another, and I may not even bother to ride one again.

I know, I know. All of you guys irrationally love 2 strokes for some reason.

Other than sound, they kind of suck. I recently bought a 250 2 stroke and had a newer 450. 2 stroke was fun for about 2 weeks and for DITD. Aside from that, less power, harder to ride, more arm pump.

2 strokes have been glorified to be better than they really are.

We just know how to ride, so it must suck to be you.Laughing

They get a 4-st because they gave up on themselves. I,m 56 I always kept myself ready or at least not fat. These 18-23 hr days& nights running the ne is hell . Junk pile of shit has a lot to do with it. My whole body is beaten to hell.  Massive amount of illegals in trucks it’s beyond frustrating. More like a pissed off rage. So I,ll b taking that to the track. I hv another back injection on 7-14. I hv to work a 2 week notice in soon.  Depending  how bad my back is it’s out now. But the plan is to race 125 class, 50+ , 40b. Sat. Sunday 250c,450c, 125. The next weekend 40A ,125 class .  I may drop

125 class the next weekend & race 250
A. I always wanted a State championship in 125 A.  My problem is no cardio ever & smking 2 + packs a day. And legs r weak but upper body is pumped like a tank. So I hv to rest that & get it loosened up.  I wanted to do this for yrs last yr was 4 months of injuries. This yr 3+ months. Don’t hv much money so a plan of a week or 2 & race for an envelop of Cash is the only way. Even if I had a pile of cash I would do it the same way. I walked about a mi across the Tomakawk river in Johnson town Ny. & watched dirt track stock cars aprox 30 cars wo drifting with 900 hp. Even the guy in 25th was awesome. A few of the drivers do it Profeshenaly & drive nascar trks, etc. anything to race.  After the race a photographer old man from fl. Asked if I heard about the hell tour. It’s 30 days of racing every day straight. I said that’s a dream not a tour of hell.  I was doing laundry when I watched the races . I get back & dry the cloths . There was a women & she split. So I told people whatever you want or need it’s free tonight. Haha

Been racing for 20 years, on a mixture of bikes but mainly 450s. Started on 125s, then moved up.

Recently bought a 2021 KTM SX250 at 40 years old and can honestly say its the best ive ever ridden, the most fun ive had, and the most comfortable ive ever felt. Sounds great, its light, not too much power, and hardly even get tired riding it (compared with 450s). Had 250 smokers in the past, with the last one being a 2016 YZ250, but this modern KTM is next level!

IMO you're either a 2 stroke guy or your not. If 4 strokes are all youve ever ridden then making the switch to 2 stroke is not easy, and probably quite frustrating. Switching the other way from 2 to 4 is boring! Laughing

A lot of people ask why I ride dirt bikes period.  They don’t get it.  It’s dangerous, expensive, you get dirty and pelted with rocks often having small irritating injuries…..but we love it.  Same way I don’t ask people why they’d jump out of an airplane.  It’s what they like.  So to answer what it is about 2strokes it’s about history, sound, power delivery and it’s just what some of us like.  Sorry if that annoys some of you.  Those who love classic cars don’t like them because they’ll best a Ferrari.  It’s just what they like.  No one cares if you don’t like 2-strokes nor should you care if people do.

Haven't read through the thread, but I say they are amazing. Intake, combustion, and exhaust cycles without the use of mechanical valves?

Insanely clever.

2 stroke engines are indeed amazing. 2 strokes to compete the whole process with a pipe shaped like a dong with a stuck bladder stone to supercharge the thing. You gotta be smoking crack to dream that one up. 4 stroke are very ho-hum in comparison, very robotic. People ride 4 strokes because they're easier to go fast on and a better race machine. All the 4 stroke guys will switch to electric for the same reasons...but the 2 stroke guys will still be 2 stroke guys because its a unique experience. Some people get it, some dont. And the ones that don't, we call "pussies".

Personally, both conceptually and functionally, they are more comparable to a brass instrument than a dong. Probably why they sound and look good.
