went riding here today, and I searched for helmet cam videos of the track for the hell of it, and find this, kid goes down hard at the LL regional there earlier this year, just watching it really makes your head hurt.

Man, what a shame. That kid was riding really good and was moving through the pack. Too bad he got a bad start or he might have never been in that situation. I need an aspirin.Blink

Looks to me like he got railed on the jump.
I haven't ridden at Walnut, but a few buddies tell me it is awesome. I had no idea it was so wide open and fast. Looks like a fun track.

Still love the sound (and smell) of the 2 stroke.

Jim it is prolly one of the best tracks around behind Red Bud and Millville. Mr. Pistole that owns Walnut goes up and helps the Richie family with Red Bud during Pro weekend.

That start was awesome! Kid was killing it. The screaming makes me quiver though

He was riding hard, but the wide sweeping lines he was taking in some of those corners was leaving the door open too far for someone to come up on the inside of him.

His coach should be sacked. Ya cant do a mid-pack start then ride the outside lines unless 'A' the inside is packed AND unless 'B' you are carrying more speed than the others..= 'oh fuk my arm!'

the track is awesome, big jumps yet they're safe. It was crazy rough in sections today, lots of holes and kickers, I was jumping over holes and braking bumps in between jumps. Haven't really done any workouts for a while and didn't even find out about the practice til last night, while I was at the bar. So my first session I could barely hold on, but got more comfy then next ession and started busting gnarly sick ass dope whips that'd make DD410 jealous.

Bottom line, this track is the shit. The big step down jump you see him hit once, the one he crashes before, is in the range of 120+ I think, but it's super easy. Just steady throttle in 3rd on a 450, and you're floating for what feels like 10 seconds.

The kid was fast for sure, but Im very confused about so many people saying he was moving through the pack. He went backwards after the start.

whats funny is, that if this video were swapped with pro riders at a pro race, with the exact same footage, all we would hear is about how he had no heart, chose the wrong lines, bike setup was off, wasted time scrubbing. But since its a young kid that crashed, he was really moving!

I wouldn't say he was moving through the pack, but I never saw him get passed

I kept leaning into the turns hoping he would dive inside...lol.

This track is faster with the outside lines as i ride there all the time. Some spots are inside but for the most part you can carry speed better on the outside

It's been a couple of hours since I watched it but didn't he make several passes going outside? I saw him pass at least 5 or 6 other riders.

The kid has some speed but little in the way of race craft. He might aswell hang a banner off his jersey 'take the inside line'. He sould have learnt his lesson the hard way now.

I'd say inside in almost every corner is the ticket, on a 450 at least. On an 85 he would need to keep his speed up. I'd say my usual inside/outside mix there is 60/40

Also, braking bumps tend to be bigger on the inside lines and an 85 would be less forgiving on braking bumps than bigger bikes.

He did make a few passes on the outside. Unfortunately, he was having a pretty heated dice for position with the rider that had the red andodized wheels, left the inside open, and Red Rims cleaned him out by coming up the inside. The inside was clearly faster in that corner as Red Rims was behind upon entry and nearly even when they made contact at the exit.

A good 85 rider will rail the outside lines to keep his momentum up. It was working for this kid...until it didn't.

What race did you watch? Started mid-pack and looked to be fighting for 2nd/3rd at the crash. I thought the guy was cooking. You go with what works for ya. Outside line was what was working for him.

3rd, what are you smoking? there was a pack of about 5 that left him. Like I said, the kid was moving and definetly faster then men, but he was in no way moving through the pack

Alright, I re-watched it, in the first 2 or 3 sections he makes up a few positions. After that he makes one pass stick before crashing, and he was in what looks to be 5th or 6th

What? That kid was making those outside lines work. At first I was like man is this kid local and knows something about those outside lines cause he is making time there. Great Cam footage. I would like to see that race over with this kid getting a good start, cover a few more inside lines and no wadding. He was going for it.

Count how many times a rider either made a pass on the inside of him or nearly passed him..this is why he crashed, the inside guy almost had his line and the enevitble 'wont shut off' tangle ensued. He lost massive time on the front 5 riders dicking around on the outside in the first couple laps.
