I just know I could be the greatest F1 driver ever but its just so unfair that its too expensive to pursue it.
You also need to travel and if out of twon a hotel and you'll need to eat, some also employ a trainer to help. So having shoes is a start.
And if you're running enough you need shoes every month expensive ones and proper nutrition nothing's cheap
Slightly off topic but I paid $60 for g/a ticket at Pala. I'm old and memory is fading fast but I thought I paid $45 last year. Parking was still $20. Damn inflation

LL on the other hand is great because someone could qualify, show up and make a name for himself. While the cost is high, it is doable. It could feasibly be done for a couple grand. I like those stories. The expense just seemed crazy high when broken out.
Riding and racing at a local level is a great deal. $35 per class to race. There is generally a $10 entrance fee. “ A” classes pay out including the vet classes. Gasfor the car and bike plus general maintenance. Contingency is available at a large portion of the races. Practice plus motos. Decent track time. Yeah I think LL is too expensive for me. But motocross is the best deal around
Watts was with him prior to any area or regional. The public support is what got Geico to give him a bike. Don’t forget he lost the ride very shortly after.
I saw this thread, and thought I would share my LL experience. My son started racing on an RM85 locally and did very well. I should say now, that I bought an old 30 foot camper bus for 12k. We enjoyed the activities on race weekend. He was short, but very well built and needed something more. He was 14.. We debated over a 125 or 250F. He chose a YZ250F. I bought him a 2004 YZ250F. Brought the bike home on Holloween night. He rode it the next day. The weather was good, as we were up north. It was mild that winter and he was able to ride a lot. He rode 250C. We started hitting the close area qualifiers when they came up. He qualified for the regional. We still went to areas in our district to ride with faster people. At the regionals he won both stock and mod classes, 1st place in both. On a bone stock bike. I told him if you want to both, that bike has to be stock. So we go to Lorettas. Nice experience. 500 for a cart, but you need one. After practice, my camp neighbor says did you get your tires. I said what tires. He said Dunlop is giving our class free tires. I went there and they had his name on the entry list. They gave me a set of tires and I thanked them, and they said wait, here is the set for the mod bike. He was in both classes. Nice. His best finish was I think 12th. He ended up around 24fh in both classes. We were happy. We we greenhorns to this. It was our 3rd year racing. Other things, we met Ricky and he wrote a nice thing on the poster he sighed for my wife. James Stewart was walking down the hill one evening, and my wife made me ask him if she could take a picture with him. So I did. He called her down the hill, and I got a picture of them with theirs arms around each other. My buddy took it to Broome a few weeks later for the National, and James said he remebered that lady, and said a nice thing on his signature. Lot of fun. Expensive yes. I don't know the total cost. But we did it on 1 bike, that was stock and never taken apart. He rode to his ability, won stock and mod on stock bike. Lorettas is a different story, but it was a great time.
Perhaps you didn’t read my full response due to it being lengthy which is fine. I did acknowledge that what I was referring to was an injury prone scenario but I also mentioned that I believe just as often as you got some people sitting at home due to injury you’ve also got to assume they’re maybe more instances of folks sitting at home due to the cost who may have just missed a potential window in some degree of success also.
Again, as I mentioned in my previous response I did see families that never attended AQ or RC in the spring but was always racing to some degree. Kids hopping out of the truck to go ride and had the same speed as some of their competitors who fared well at LL. Some of them didn’t have the funds and their were others who went to the ranch maybe three or four times from when they started on 50s - did well but never received any support compared to the people they were beating and didn’t see the need to keep spending needlessly and got out completely or scaled the effort back quite a bit.
What year was this you did LL's 2 classes on stock bike ?
