So I bought a honda 450, absolutely love the thing, but I ride often a pretty tight small track, there is really no where to get on the thing.
I was thinking of going a took up in the front so I could just ride it around in first but am open to suggestions to make this thing more manageable power wise. Yes, I did put it to the mellow map.
traction control map 3 helps as well to mellow it out down low.
TC, gearing, heavier Hinson steel clutch basket, o-ring/x-ring chain with a steel rear sprocket, and even throwing in a spark arrestor insert can always tame things down...Easier to slow a bike down than speed it up! Best of luck
An exhaust might help, oddly enough. I had an ‘18 CRF450 that had a weird lurch at 1/4 throttle. I put an akrapovic full exhaust on it and the low end flattened out and was much easier to ride in tighter stuff. Overall the bike felt stronger but much more manageable.
Something like a G2 throttle with the adjustable / replaceable cam might be of help.

Athena GET makes a WiFi adapter for the Hondas that allows you to adjust the ignition and fuel curves with your phone while still using the OEM ECU. Similar to what Yamaha has on their YZF's, or the GET system itself, and it works great.

Gearing. Try a 14T counter sprocket. You'll be amazed at what that does to calm things down. If 14T isn't quite enough, try 1-2 tooth lower rear sprocket and keep working the gear ratio (rear teeth divided by front teeth) down until it's to your liking. An added benefit will be a wider powerband feeling.
Also try a tad more slack in your throttle cable. Yamahas have a finger adjustment for this I use all the time. When I am tired and get sloppy, time for more slack! I'm talking VERY SMALL adjustments here, but it makes a big difference.
