Amnesty is for legitimate, credible threat. It is not for economic advantage, otherwise known as "they just want a better life". Claiming amnesty so that one can "get a better life" and send money back to their corrupt home country to sustain the cycle is fraud.
The people claiming amnesty are not seeing immigration officials to make a determination on their amnesty claim until 3-4 years after they enter. They are allowed to remain in the USA with no permanent status in the meantime. Even at that, the percentage that actually show up to their court date is pathetically low. And of that, the percentage that actually receive approval of their amnesty claim is lower yet.
It's a huge fraud and you are paying for it.
