South Bend... Others may do it differently, but that's where I go.
Flew into Chicago for MXON last year for bachelor party. Picked up rental car, and stopped at a indoor cart track for some motos then onto Buchanan. Think it was about hour and a half drive. Wasn’t bad at all. We had a direct flight to Chicago so that made things alot easier.
Chicago is usually cheaper and depending on where you fly from it can be a direct flight. Traffic can be a nightmare depending on when you get in. In 2021, it took me 3 1/2 hours to get from the track to the airport to pick up my riders and around 2 1/2 hours back. However, I did drive down an emergency lane for nearly ten miles to save time like a jackass.
South Bend will be more expensive but if you can find the right flight that works for you and your budget, I'd highly recommend it. Most stay in that town and it's less than 20 mins from the track.
I would fly into Midway airport in South Chicago. It's about 1.7 hours from the airport. O'hare airport is further North and West so you'd save around 30 minutes worth of driving by flying into Midway.
My dad owns a 14 acre farm on Red Bud Trail around 3 miles from the track.....just a sidenote

I’d agree with everything Moto520 and Michael said, if South Bend is in budget it’s best bet and way easier. If Chicago I’d definitely recommend Midway over O’Hare as Midway is more on south side of Chicago and it’s a lot less hectic than O’Hare in my opinion. Most people stay in South Bend if getting hotel and it’s a pretty quick easy drive to the track. Either way you go have a good trip, RedBud is an awesome race to go to and experience!
Just to the south of o,hare is the bensenville bridge- ovr pass a small rail yard is under that. South bound at the wrong part of the day is always a parking lot. Everyone In Chicago land drives to the max. Some get wore out in the previous backup & don’t drive too nutty. Even when your out & on 80-94 that is usually bad from wrecks & i65 s exit. The goal is to get to point b without getting in a wreck. It can be exciting & every time it will be different in or out bound. You might get lucky & the traffic is flying . Pick out the fastest car & sling shot him. As a bonus you,ll feel like you got a race in b4 you hit the track.
An airport, ideally
I’ve been 3 times and flew into Chicago every time. It’s not a bad drive but there are tolls and the tolls up there aren’t easy like they are here in Texas.
Grand Rapids is easiest - people just never think about it, O'Hare second, South Bend 3rd.
All depends where you are coming from.
South Bend, Midway, Grand Rapids... in that order if it was me...
Thanks all. Super helpful.
I'm meeting up with a privateer who is doing all of the rounds and will have one of my bikes in his camper. Looking forward to practice and racing amateur days.
South Bend looking very similar cost-wise to Grad Rapids. $30 bucks to save an hour of driving is worth it to me. Since, I'll likely be using a ride share service the savings flying to Midway/O'hare just aren't there.
My privateer buddy (who is doing all the rounds with his dad) will be driving from High Point to Red Bud and will be looking for a place to practice before the national.
Are there any good places you know of n the area that he might be able to hit up?
