This is exactly how I felt after the Minneapolis Supercross last year. US Bank sent me a report that the CO levels are in compliance. It wasn’t allergies either as it was late winter in MN.

How long did it take for you to get over feeling like trash?

I was in Glendale at a Airbnb since Tuesday. I ran 5 miles each day we were there,  including Saturday morning, and did an outdoor workout at a playground not far from the house. I have terrible allergies and I ran by fields, on a dusty path next to the canal, and did pushups on wet grass, etc…. And I had zero issues all week.

By 9:15 last night my wife and I were both nauseous, red eyed, had bad headaches, and I came back to the house stuffed up and heavy chested. Flew back to salt lake today and drove home to Wyoming tonight and am literally just now feeling better and my eyes are clearing up.

I’d be the first to say allergies as I’ve suffered for 45 years, but considering my week and the amount of time I spent outdoors with zero issue, I’m here to say last night was more than allergies and dust (although the dust was really bad).

Have to pay extra to make that happen. Charged by the foot. 😁

Well...  I moved to Arizona 7 years ago from So Ca. and have been to ever SX in Phoenix since I moved there - except this year .  Why?  Because in late March to late April the plumes of pollen clouds form and come down like rain so I got the he!! out of there.  What you guys are all describing is exactly why I have been in Sonoma wine country mountain biking and drinking wine outdoors the past three weeks and won't return to Arizona until the end of April

I checked the pollen exposure and you guys were all getting bombed last weekend.  No one has had this problem before at the stadium because the race is always in February when there is no pollen during this time,  This year they moved the date because of the Super Bowl and unfortunately you all ended up in the dead center of the highest pollen exposure Arizona gets.

Think about it.  Why hasn't anyone one experienced this amount of eye, throat, breathing agitation before?  It doesn't have anything to do with the fumes.  They know how to vent the stadium.  You all got to experience what a juniper pine pollen cloud feels like.

And it SUCKS!!!!!

And before the responses of "but it's the desert, there are no juniper pines there" are posted   Google it -

1. Just North of Phoenix in Arizona is the largest Pine forest in the Nation.

2. "The pollen from junipers is known to travel 200 miles on a moderately windy day!"

Wife and I were traveling through so we decided to go. It got us pretty good. She started feeling sick first and I didn't put two and two together until the next morning as we both felt awful and passed out right away.

Both of still feel like crap today and our eyes are still fried here 24 hours later.

I hope everyone one filled out the survey from State Farm Stadium. Everyone is saying how the broadcast was hazy. I was in section 105 and it was hazy from my seat. I could barely talk by the time we left. I called my my wife before we left the hotel and she said i didn't sound like myself. I am a long time seasonal allergy sufferer, this was different. The lid was basically closed...WTF. Oh yeah, I live in Tucson. Allergens are similar and not new to me. If you have the capability to vent thru the roof why would you keep it, basically, closed? I've been to SX in San Diego, Anaheim (more times than I remember), Phoenix Bank 1, and this was my 1st Glendale. As far as parking, leaving the parking lot, and ventilation, this was the worst. Racing was great....venue, not so much. Don't get me started on the 28% surcharge the restaurants charged right outside the stadium. I felt bad for the families having to buy food - inside the stadium or out. Jettson Donuts, lol!! $30 for 4 donuts. I hope it's going to charity.

Ya, I left the stadium to get my inhaler and was fine by the time I got my inhaler.  Took a puff just to be safe and brought it back with me.  But as soon as I get outside of the stadium, I was feeling much better.  This most certainly had nothing to do with allergies like pollen.  The dust in the air bothered me, but it sure felt like race fuel fumes and poor ventilation.  The pyrotechnics in the opening ceremonies didn't help either.  The roof is normally completely open for those.  All the haziness the whole night is an indication of lack of air exchanges in the space.  Roof should have been open 100%.

I posted this on the race thread and a couple other posters are experiencing similar symptoms; but is anyone else’s eyes screwed up right now? Since the end of the night, my eyes have been irritated beyond belief and my nose has been running non stop. This is my first experience in a stadium like State Farm and wondering if anyone else has had similar situations and what they did to help relieve the symptoms.

Without going into a long winded technical explanation on an Easter Sunday morning (I'm a chemical engineer with extensive gas phase reaction background), its highly unlikely that it was Carbon monoxide. I wanted to tell you this to put your mind at ease. CO from combustion is produced under extreme temperatures and gases rise with heat from stack effect.  Then you generally have warming in the space from people that further results in gases rising - even if the gas is heavier than air.  Factor in air movement from HVAC and the CO was likely fairly well exhausted. I'm also certain they monitor CO levels in the stadium because they have other events like Monsterjam that also could cause issues.  I'd say it was a combination of dust and particulate matter.  Those are heavy enough to settle.  I heard it was worse down on the stadium floor.  We had dusty crap all over our seats when we got into the stadium.  Definitely never had this issue in the stadium years past.

Heck of a lot more in dirt bike exhaust than just CO, especially when they’re burning race fuel.

Seeing this thread was a shock to me - we went to both Indy and Detroit and experienced the same symptoms. Both of my sons more so than me. Eyes were bloodshot as hell, hoarse voice and a persistent cough. Thought it was cold symptoms after Indy but then a week later Detroit caused the same things again but didn't seem quite as bad. We did leave Detroit stadium for fresh air and to get drinks from our car in the middle of the day so that may have helped. Couldn't be pollen as Indy and Detroit both were cold and basically still winter....

It has been several weeks and both of my sons still have a slight persistent cough...

We have went for many years and not experienced this before so we are all wondering what is up. Only thing that I did notice different was the smoke being released prior to the start of the evening right before opening ceremonies. I don't remember this from before and it seemed to really hang in the air all night...

I am going to keep up on this thread, hopefully someone finds out more info....

Mark it felt like my eyes were gonna bleed last night and I spent most of today supplementing with artificial tears. Lungs feel like I just sprinted a full mile all day long. Wife is still congested/coughing (and pregnant) I'm really less than stoked about it. Loved the suite though lol.

24 hours after the race and my eyes are just now getting back to normal, my nose has been clogged all damn day and I even used my inhaler in between the second 250/450 gangbangs.

I’ve lived in the valley for a long time this isn’t our typical spring allergies

After attending every race in State Farm and the last few @ chase this was by far the haziest I’ve ever seen it and even made a comment to a buddy that I was surprised the roof was barley cracked open

Yeah except for that I spend probably 100+ hours a week outdoors and in the dirt and don't experience that.  Having lived in AZ for all but 3 of my years, and going to AZ supercross rounds every year since 97 (last year of sun devil stadium), they fu€k£d up this time. When a large portion of people report this as irregular and EXTREMELY irritating, you don't write that off to pollen.

So let me get this right. Never before has there been people having allergic reactions at SX race held indoors in Az except the one year the race was held during the worst time of the year for pollen and of the 55,000 + attendees a small percentage had allergic reactions because they didn't vent the stadium correctly?

So did the guy in charge of turning on the vents forget? Or maybe the dude who was supposed to throw the switch to open the top went home early?

All I am saying is that when you take high concentrations of pollen, mix in dust and gas fumes and sit in a confined area for an extended period of time you are going to get a pollinated super cocktail.

Seems to me that the people who feel they were gassed are ignoring the fact that if it was toxic gas fumes most, not a small percentage of the people would have been overcome.

People are describing dust /pollen allergic reactions (red/ scratchy/ watery eyes, a scratchy throat, clogged noses - not the effects of inhaling gas fumes - dizziness, nausea and an extreme headache.

If it was just gas fumes you would have had a much more severe reaction, not just a basic allergic reaction.

Next year it will be back on schedule to be in February.  I don't think I am going to far out on a limb predicting that just like every other race held in the stadium during February hardly anyone will be complaining about the air quality.

Just say'n...

I grew up in So Ca and left when I was 55.  Never had an allergy in my life either.  The pine pollen in Az got me though. And it is bad.

Curious - have you been to any other SX races in Az?  Did you have any problems before?

For the record on the night of the race the tree pollen in Glendale was near the highest levels.  It has declined slightly the last few days

I was in the stadium most of the day from about 11:30am until the end of the last race of the night.  I watched all of the practices and the LCQ's.  When I entered the stadium for the start of the races it was super hazy.  I thought it was maybe from the opening ceremonies fireworks that I missed.  I wondered why they didn't open the roof because it stayed hazy all night.

I woke up Sunday to the same misery everyone is referring to.  The 3 hour flight home last night was not a party.  Monday morning my eyes are still red and my nose is still running.

On a positive note, it was my first visit to the Glendale stadium and it was impressive.  The security and stadium staff were friendly and they had a good process for parking and entering the stadium.  The retractable football field is very cool.

I’m not saying what it was, really have no idea for sure.

I arrived in Glendale Wednesday and my throat and eyes were shot Friday morning, before any bikes were started.

Just part of traveling, not going to die anytime soon, at least from whatever that was.

I’ve been living in the queen creek area for almost 2 years. I do get allergies at times and this by no means was an allergy attack. I’m still super tired, glossy and bloodshot eyes. It’s def still kicking my ass today.

Man thats a bummer sorry to hear you guys that attended are feeling sick!

TBH, after Indy my wife and family (and myself although I didn't notice till they brought it up) eyes were all bloodshot. My throat also hurt the next day and my wife had a headache that lasted all day as well.

Maybe the ventilation in these stadiums is less equipped for the race gas these guys all run nowadays?

Where are you getting your small percentage #'s from-- VitalMX? Cheerful

Have you interviewed the 55,000 in attendance? I'm willing to bet your small percentage # would change significantly.

First time attending SX in Glendale. I've been to dozens of races though, never experienced anything like this.

I had a blast, and that stadium is an impressive sight, but holy hell, whatever I'm reacting to is no fun.
