2020 KTM 250sx. The shock collar won't fit over the bottom of the shock (the piece the collar is sitting next to in the attached picture). Any tips of how to remove the bottom part of shock from the shaft? Or do I (or the shop I'd take it to) have to dissessmble the top of shock with the reservoir and such to thread it down from the top?
This is just how the shock is on the Austrian bikes. The bumper cup is larger diameter than the body so no spring collars will slide on without taking the entire shock apart. Ride Eng mentions this on the page for this part.

Yeah, I was hoping them saying that meant just taking the spring off the shock. Time to check some videos on disassembling the shock body
It's basically a full teardown/rebuild to get it apart far enough to change the collar. If you've never done a shock rebuild before you're probably better off taking it to a suspension shop. Unless you were just looking for an excuse to buy a bunch of tools and learn how to rebuild a shock.
After owning several of these shocks, I learned to live with the plastic adjuster and think it's better than the aftermarket ones. Just need to keep the threads clean. The metal ones seem to gall up. Just my experience.
I like the xtrig, with the bigger 4 stroke pipe, swapping the shock with a bigger adjuster is an even bigger pain.

Do not attempt to remove the shock clevis to get around disassembling the body. It is pressurized and can hurt you. WP shocks have a piston instead of a rubber bladder in the reservoir. If you replace it with the Race Tech kit it will be much easier to service your shock.
@basket random Handling the shock absorber is not easy.
You can have the shock serviced and while they have to shaft out they can put it on for you.
