Can a Kiwi please tell me about Courtney Duncan?

Edited Date/Time 3/20/2013 11:00am
I keep read about this 12 yr old girl last year and now she's 13yrs old and smoking the top 13 yr old boys in Australia and New Zealand. She got 5th at the Jr Nats in Australia against the boys but I heard she crashed too. I saw a little clip on you tube and she does look fast but is she really as fast as i'm hearing. And do you guys know of any other videos besides this one.

There will be some that can comment better than I can but she recently finished 6th overall at the world junior motocross champs held at Taupo NZ.

That video beats the hell out of anything current of the pros.

Except the Red Bud RC on a smoker Vid.

She is riding for Yamaha now, 85cc small wheel I believe...... Fast as hell.
Apparently she is planning to only race against guys and not race in the womens class.
Time will tell, but if she did I think she would be hard to beat.

At the Aussie titles she smoked her girls class and got a 5th against the guys, star of the future.

That's a great way to make it happen. Just race the boys all the way. Even if she doesn't qualify for a mens gp or national she'd still haul ass in the womens gps or the wma. Every thing I've read about her says she may be the future of womans mx. This is from the Aussie Jr championship:New Zealand rider Courtney Duncan made it a clean sweep, winning all the races in the Female 85cc/150cc 12 to under 16 years class, and managed an impressive fifth place against the guys after crashing in the final race of the 85cc two stroke 12 to under 14 years class-----6th against all the boys at Taupa NZ Jr.world championships isn't bad either. Pretty impressive..

ok, ill tell what i know,

in that video she was riding a CR85, she has since changed to YZ85's, she finshed 6th at the World Juniors and 1st Kiwi,

she won the aussie womans junior title last week, and finshed 5th in the Junior boys class for here age, after running as high as 2nd in some races and having a very bad last race,
at this years Auckland MX Champs, which was held in very wet conidtions, she lapped the field in the Junior 13-16 years 85cc class, and then won the open open class on sunday by a huge margin as well,

she is very fast, i would say 15% quicker than Tania Satchwell and Katherine Prumm were at the same age, she wins races on here best days, were those 2 would run top 5 against the boys on there best days,

She looks a very talented rider and I am sure that she does well but video can be deceiving. If some of you remember a while back Transworld put up a video of Ashley and some of you had her going faster that Christian Craig.

Good luck to the little lady and I look forward to seeing her here in the states soon.

Her results against the guys should back up the video.

The video shows her spanking the boys so there's nothing to be mislead about. The boys on the podium don't look to happy to have a girl that crashed get up and smoke them. My dad wasn't a crazy mini dad but I remember my dad would tease me when i got beat by a kid in pink JT pants. He'd say come on you can't let a kid in pink pants beat you..lol..I couldn't imagine how much he would of teased me when Courtney flew by me..W00t

That would be awesome. My youngest daughter(3 yrs old) is amazed by her(I am too) and I tried finding her more videos but couldn't. I'm getting her a bike next summer and it's awesome nowadays that she has so many fast girls at all levels of the sport to look up to. When I was a kid the only girls I remember are DeeDee Kates and of course Mercedes Gonzales. And back then the class had the most demeaning name.. It was called the Powder Puff class.. Mercedes was no Powder puff on the track though. She used to run top 5 in the intermediate class against the boys at Indian Dunes.

That all depends on the ability of the boys that she is running against.

I wish the young lady all the well wishes in the world but only time will tell. LL would be a good proving ground for the young lady to test the waters.

She races against the best boys in New Zealand,Australia and sometimes the best from all over Europe. I'd say that's stiff comp. There's great talent all over the world not just at LL's..

your right there, but to go 8-3 in the world champs beating some of the best in the world at the world juniors is pretty good, and then to top qualify in the Aussie Champs is pretty awesome,

LL would be an awesome oppurtunity, but very expensive to qualify and do the race from this end of the world,

Scott..Some Americans seem to base everything on LL's. They seem to forget fast kids come from all over the world and never race LLs.. If you base Ken Roczens career on how he did at LLs it would look like he had no shot in the future. I think he got like 8th overall in 08 and look at him now at 15 yrs old winning GPs. I heard at the Jr Aussie championships she would of been 2nd overall if she didn't crash in the 2nd moto. The more I read about this girl the more I'm convinced she may qualify for a mens national in the future.

Only time will tell and again I wish her the best of luck. The point that I was trying to get across is how people watch a video of someone riding and make these predictions.

I know what you're saying and for the most part that's true. Especially when 1/2 the time people speed up video before posting it. I have been reading about her for a little over a year now and base my opinion on her results vs the best boys in her country and in europe. I didn't even see this video til today. I went video hunting when I was posting the thread and found only that one. I just nobody would believe me unless i found a Video.

Here's her results and fast lap time from the FIM Jr worlds in Taupo NZ. These are the fastest kids on 85cc in the world (outside of USA) and I think they're as old as 15 yrs old and she's only 13. She's only 1.5 seconds off the winner of the moto. By most accounts Jay wilson and Dylan long could win LLs titles if they came over here.

1 61 Samuele Bernardini 2:28.504
2 62 Michaboy de Waal 2:28.623
3 48 Jay Wilson 2:25.694

5 55 Micah McGoldrick 2:30.189

7 44 Dylan Long 2:28.817
8 31 Lars van Berkel 2:28.886
9 45 Hayden Mellross 2:31.310
10 41 Luke Clout 2:29.588
11 67 James Anderson 2:33.813
12 49 Jeremy Seewer 2:32.696
13 58 Dane Russell 2:35.279

Not much of her in this video but she's #52 in it. It's footage from practice at the Jr Worlds.

Yep. I would think that the Jr. Worlds would have pretty stiff competition.
