I did that the week before with when trying to make sense of Coops time gains. What the lap times don't show is the "yo yo" factor within a lap. Eli most certainly lost time in the bobble, but he cranked up the juice after. Coop even commented on that...he heard it by the sound of Elis motor.
I think that's also what happened this week. Coop appeared to be catching Chase within the lap where the lappers mess up Chase. It slowed Chase, but he cranked it back up. I honestly believe Chase did not know how close Coop was....the pass had to come as a total surprise.
Fantastic numbers/stats on Arlington here:

Great job Lewis!
This is where the lap times seem to not tell the whole story.
In this screenshot from the race, it shows how close Coop had gotten to Chase before the lapper incident....

It seems that every other year Webb the assassin shows his face. It is amazing how gritty he is in the last 5 minutes of these races. When everyone else is hitting the cruise control button and slowing he is hitting his stride and not falling off the pace when the track is at it's most technical. I'd say it's 50/50 between Webb and Eli at this point with Sexton's chances fading with every little tip over.
Maybe not the fastest but probably the most crafty racer on the track. He just seems to be there when shit hits the fan for others or it's like he can see 3 moves ahead. He's as fast as he needs to be.
Everyone else playing checkers, Webb is playing chess
Bumping this thread - Webb rode great at Daytona and continues to impress. One missed shift away from a potential win.
Got out front early and refused to give up the lead - even giving Tomac a bump/shove competing for the inside line before the switchback/tunnel.
Hard to believe the guy who jumped through the whoops on the first lap won. Hope his knee feels better next week.
Cooper can make up as much time as he wants but at the end of the day he still takes second to Eli way to many times. Eli knows how to win and that's all that matters. Cooper is riding really well right now and still has as good a chance at this title as Eli does. We have had some amazing races this year. To bad Cooper does not bring that same speed to the outdoors.
You are absolutely right but Webb has progressively gotten faster/better this season.
If he continues that trend and squeezes just a smidgen more out of himself, consistently,...he will consistently beat Tomac.
Not saying that this is what's going to happen but it wouldn't take much to happen.
Did anyone notice how quickly ET3 caught CW2 a little before the midway mark? A bit of a banzai move by CW2 gave him the lead for a few. I think ET3 has learned a few things in his years of winning races.

Post a reply to: For all you doubters, CW2 IS the fastest guy on the track.
