The 06 had if I remember correctly some very good and importand suspension upgrades. Same Forks as the 05 but they got rave reviews in 06 for the suspension.

Not certain about the 250, but the 125 has much different/improved suspension in the 06 and up.

Larger shock shaft, shock body, fork internals changed.

I have both, and the 06 is markedly better than the 05.

The shock has more changes than the forks....again, at least on the 125.

Wait on an 06 if the 250 is like the 125. You won't regret it.

The 2006 and up YZ250's have Kayaba SST suspension, which is light years better than the 2005 suspension

As mentioned, the '06 went to speed sensitive valving from the '05's position sensitive valving. HUGE improvement. And probably still the best performing forks out there.

Might be the reason why you see lots of '05 YZ250s for sale ... but hardly any '06s and up?

Like others, Ive ridden both the 05 and 06 YZ250s. Both are excellent bikes! However, because of the suspension upgrades to the 06 on both ends, it works a lot better, and in my experience, handles better because of it.

Yeh we bought an 05 250 as a practice bike/another bike to race and went to the local suspension joint and they said there were problems with this model compared to the newer ones, still its handles well and very fun Smile

06 and up is the way to go as its the best stock suspension out there with the SSV system...

There were some frame cracking issues near the steering head on some '05's that got fixed late in the production run.

That would be something to look for if you are considering an '05.
