Alpinestar Tech 10 or gearne SG12 overall

Over these last few years, I had problems with my Astar 10s wearing out waaaay too quickly (the rubber on the sole wearing thru). I switched to Gaerne SG12s and have been amazed at the comfort and durability. I have a pair of Gaerne Dakar ADV boots…I wish all my shoes were as comfortable! 

A-stars have soles made of butter.

Also made the switch to Gaerne and get a lot more life out of a pair of boots.

The sg 12 is much more roomy especially in the front of the foot area. I did not size down, they fit perfectly in the same size. I was die hard tech 10 for years, never again. The sg12 is way more comfortable and durable. 

I also broke my leg last year in my tech 10's and was wondering the same thing. I was wondering about the sidi's as well as they seem to have more protection on the inside where I broke it.

I switched to Sidi after being very disappointed with the soles on the ‘21+ Tech10s and I’m never going back. Would recommend Gaerne over A-stars as well, but I went with SIDI for the cheap and easy sole replacement. 

A lot of people prefer tech 7’s

Astars have better impact absorption, tested by my knees and ankles vs. SG-12 after they have some time on them whereas Tech 10’s continue to absorb well.

SG12s hands down 

If you want to break yourself tech 7s are great. Nike dunks have more support

Customer feedback on both is pretty much inline with what people are saying . Most say the Tech 10 is more comfortable and feels broken in right away. depending on the rider some have gone up a size and some run the same size. It kinda seems like the guys size 11 and up go up a size in the Tech 10 when coming from  an SG12.  I've had more exchanges for people switching to the Tech10 from SG 12 needing to go up a size . Than people feeling like their boots were too big going to the SG12 from a tech 10. Overall the Tech 10 seems to be on the smaller side VS the SG12. My feet are too big for either so I can not say from personally trying them on.

All I wear are Tech 7’s, however my next boot purchase I plan to be some 10’s as I’m becoming a faster rider and feel I could use them. We’ll see how long they last

Durability and Temperature of your feet in the summer: SG-12

I have both and this is my conclusion. My favorite is the SG-12 because that’s what makes me happy but I can see why someone would choose the Tech 10 for sure. 

Same here. Size 10 in most shoes. Size 10.5 in SG-12 and size 11 in Tech 10’s here. 

Some pros run the Tech 7's. I know Jr. Hill uses 7's and so do I.

I was a die hard A Stars fan for years, had tech 8s, tech 10 and went for a pair of Gearne SG10 as i got a very good deal.

the SG10 did last forever, i sold them (to a friend wo also loves Gearne now), bought myself a pair of SG12.

I will put a new sole on my SG12 now, apart from that they are still offering a good protection and dont look like they need to be replaced anytime soon.

They are comfy, they are durable- but i would say the TECH10 are feeling a little bit lighter.

I also have some Sidi Crossfire, i m using the Gearne for MX, the Sidi for Enduro. I probably will not go back to Astars anytime soon- as i m not that impressed with their products anymore, i dont like the sole (didnt last that long, i hate their buckles)

Im a 10.5. I wear 11 in tech 10’s and a 10 in SG12s

If I rode more than once a week (I don’t ride in the winter either), or did more longer off-road rides I’d stick with the Gaernes. I switched to Tech 10’s and love them. They’re wearing faster, but the peg feel is outstanding.

I don’t understand how people kill the soles on tech 10’s so quick. I have around100hrs on mine with propegs and they still aren’t worn though.

I do consciously work on riding with my toes pointed in and when I use the controls I try to lift my foot to the control and then lift it back to the correct position on the peg and not drag it back and forth like a cheese grater. Not to conserve my soles but that it gives you better control.

The soft pad on the inside of the ankle is worn off but with grip on the frame it doesn’t bother me.  The only thing I don’t like is that the entire sole isn’t replaceable. Some of the wear on mine is in front of the replaceable part. I always struggled with brake and shifter feel and up shifting while standing with my old old boots including the original tech 10’s. Never had that problem with my new ones. I don’t have allot of money but I’d rather have to replace my boots a little more frequently and have them work as well as they do..

I haven't been able to test Gaerne because they don't fit my feet. Tech 10 are comfortable with lots of support for the ankles but they don't have very good impact protection for the front of your foot. The Gaerne and Sidi have that in every moto boot they sell. The soles are much stiffer too which also protects the foot. Sometimes I wonder what will happen if I have a hard landing with the thin feeling tech 10 sole.

I see more wear on the Sidi replaceable sole than the tech 10 which seems odd, but they are easy to replace and not super expensive to do. I see a lot more wear on the Tech 10 where my ankles contact the bike.

The best performing boots are Tech 10s hands down. If you want to save some $$$, you could try a more durable boot like the SG12s. Don't fall for the Tech 7 stuff. Not even comparable to what you're looking at.

Have you put in many hours with the T7s? They're horrible in terms of support. I've never had more random twisted/sprained ankles and stuff like that in my life. OJ a jump? Ankles killing me. Slightly case a jump, ankles killing me. SG12's have so much more support and last so much longer it's a no brainer.

You can replace the entire sole. You just can also do only the insert as well.  And I’m the same, I have no problem at all weight wear on my soles. I also move my feet around a ton which is a common them with riders that don’t toast the soles quickly.  

Sidi atojo and crossfire 3 have that as a replaceable part and what is there doesn’t wear out nearly as fast as the tech 10. The crossfire 3 does not have good ankle support though.
