You're aware that the race wasn't cancelled because of safety, it was cancelled because Dirt Wurx couldn't build a track with the sloppy dirt, right?
MC walking on water
A few from A1 and SF mudders . . .
Who said?
because a couple of guys on this board say otherwise and that ‘mud-race’ spec track was actually built. I’m assuming they’re local to Oakland and saw it.
Those are wet races.... but you want to see a mud race? Go look at the 1991 HangTown Outdoor race. )

does it count if it's outdoors?
I'm surprised this one hasn't been posted yet.
Even the kids had a go at San Diego 19:
Pit Row
What race was that?
Seville, Spain in December ‘03. One of two extra races if I remember correctly that counted toward the ‘04 SX series “world championship”.
Although Devin doesn't have a clue, that 75 Hangtown triple header was a real bog in the river bottom.
When it's just super nasty like the above races... I think canceling is the right thing to do. A slop fest is really not that fun for the riders or the folks watching. I think canceling Oakland was a smart move... but that's just me.
I wasn’t born until 1993 so no I wasn’t aware lol
I think this is Jeff Ward back in 83....
Brandon Jesseman
I know that.
That race would have 100% been canceled in today's moto world.
Another good mud race is the 87 MXdN at Unadilla. Sticky, gooey mud, not so much water just thick mud everywhere.
I was at that 1991 Hangtown race. There was a creek running through the center of the track. I watched Doug Henry's pass on Buddy on the down hill off camber right hand turn... there was so much water in that turn they were hydroplaning through it. Doug just said "screw it... I'm going to the front or crashing".... And he went to the front. No way he had a clue what was under that water ... or where the ruts were. Too much water.
I'll also never forget Guy Cooper going off that drop off they have there totally sideways. He was so sideways... and just had it pinned as he went off it. I think he was saying "get me into the air and I'll get it cleared up once I'm in the air". It was nuts. But he got it all sorted in the air.
Cole Seely is such a legend.
