I'm 6'2 and I feel your pain. It took about 40 hours of riding to get my legs strong enough to hold a 450 open and be in the correct position. Just keep practicing and one day it will click and you will understand what the hell Ryno is preaching.
I think the Gasgas is really hard to grip also. Like the grip interface is just not as good to me so it feels like theres always lubricant on my knees. I'm squeezing it so hard I'm bruising through TP199's and it's staying sore for a week. Deep bruising.. There are pictues of this in a thread from big rick vankamp
My idea is to lower my center of gravity closer to that of the bike, which will decrease the leverage the bike has on me and allow me to spend less energy/force just used to stay on it. Footpegs might give you a half inch, but that may allow your body to move in a way that gives a greater return. More than you asked for, but food for thought since we're in a similar stuation.
I did a 30mm guts seat (elected to not get the wing but it does seem good) and switched out the bars before even riding it to the ones Keefer recommended. Pro Taper SX high or something? I may push forward the bar mounts in the top clamp next. The Luxon risers may be another purchase down the road. Or the whole set of clamps with them cuz damn they are cool and may help the fork work even better.
Just an update for anyone looking plastics, Acerbis says late March hopefully and Cycra said April.
The biggest downside to a new bike is waiting for the accompanying aftermarket parts to arrive....

$189.95 - $239.95
Seems like the front plate doesn’t fit perfectly with xtrigs. Hoping the stadium plates cleans that up when it’s available.
Saw three at the track today. Sat on one. As thin as my 23 300 SX and actually not as tall.
Tall how? Seat height? The YZ should be just a bit taller in that dimension.
The Yam seat height is lower than my 300 SX but the owner of the YZ was a lot lighter than me. The Yam was very flat from airbox to seat.
Yea I guess seat height is relative, can't just go off the numbers from the spec sheets. gotta consider the height of the pegs and relation to the bars on top of all of that.
Have you thought of the winged seat cover? I made one for my Suzuki and rode with it for about 60 hours. Once my legs were nice and strong I removed it because I wanted my legs to contact the number plates more.
I also am a big fan of grip tape, I like the locked in feeling it gives me.
I would lower my pegs, but my heels hit the ground sometimes and my pegs are in the upper position on my kawi.
741, how about that CRF comparison? I gotta shit or get off the pot on the one I know of.. it's blue and it's here..
Yamaha all day. Much more rideable power wise and the chaise is 💯 easier to ride.
The 300SX is tall. The Matrix step stand will not get the wheels off the ground.
Ohio. Haven't heard of another in Ohio yet.
Just curious, and if you don’t mind me asking, how much was OTD for you guys that have gotten one?
MSRP plus tax n title n freight.
I’m south of canton and picked mine up a few days ago
Awesome! Where'd ya get it? This one came in a couple days ago but was just able to get it today.
Pit Row
I apologize for the paint edit, but to me the only goofy thing is the airbox up front. It is way too bulky and high. I know that it probably can't get any more compact, but I believe this looks 100% better.
That’s awesome, congrats!! I made the drive out by Pittsburg to Bentley’s Powersports. It arrived Wednesday and was able to pick it up Thursday evening. Mine is the Monster edition, tbh it didn’t matter to me which one I got. I’ll post pics later if I get a chance.
My son broke ours in today. He LOVED this thing. I could tell immediately the bike turned better just by watching. He did a moto on his 22 YZ125 with full suspension and ROCS on it to get warmed up and he said the 450 turns better than the 125.
Turns better, lighter feeling, slimmer, and he loved the power. Said a little stiff, frame and suspension wise. He didn't notice any unstableness at high speed. He complained the 22 CRF450R was twitchy in the front so I was expecting the same feel with the Yamaha but no, at least not on our track.
We set up the bike exactly as the manual called for. 7mm at the forks and 98 sag. I want to him to try Keefers setup next!
Can't wait to hear how you feel about it, I'm thinking of switching from Honda myself
Db or sgrimm.... Any interest in swapping rear fenders and side number plates? My blue for your black?
Just a thought. Lol
I should be getting a monster edition any day now and i would be interested in swapping ALL the black for blue.
Thanks for the offer, but I'm going for the black in the back and blue up front look. Otherwise, I'll stay all blue.
I have had 3 rides on mine. I ride sand tracks and I also have an 18 YZF, this 23 is completely different, a lot more weight on the front, it turns much better but the stability isn’t great compared to my 18. I ended up with 105 sag and I’m still not happy with the balance, 95mm sag is just insane, there is no way I could run that on a fast rough outdoor track, the front blows through the stroke too.
The power off the bottom has been mellowed out a lot compared to the 18-22 era bike.
For the riding I do I need more stability and need the rear to squat and track straight more, I’m thinking a softer shock spring.
If you loved the stability and out of the box ridability of the 22, there’s a good chance you’ll struggle a bit with this bike, it’s completely different. You won’t get on it and feel balanced instantly, it’s gonna take some fiddling with. Don’t get one thinking it’s going to be an even better version of the 22, it’s a completely different animal.
You could move forks out to get is better in sand?
If you would have messaged me Friday I may would have. I have already ordered replacement shrouds so we can do our own graphics and keep these originals fresh, I ordered black so... Thanks for the offer though.
I’m just going to keep these plastics. Already scuffed them up too lol. Did you order oem ones sgrimmxdad? I figured they would be on backorder forever. I rode a rough sand track yesterday and had the forks at 5mm, sag at 102. I might run the forks flush like enzo recommends. The bike turns really well and I did have a few front end swaps. I’m also using xtrigs and even in the past I make the steering nut tight but when I ride the front end gets easy to fall side to side. I’m sure everything will break in more too, only rode an hour. I will say I usually only run 3rd gear but this bike you can ride 2nd almost everywhere. It pulls forever, I only used third on long straights. I didn’t ride for 4 months waiting for this bike so I’m going to get back up to speed before I say anything too specific.
Have you tried the recommended sag 98mm? What have you got to lose.
