I visited Baltimore this past fall and it actually has some nice areas. Yes, it had some really bad ones too. All big cities are the same... Don't take a wrong turn.

I had to stay at a motel next to the Oakland airport last year, it was the shadiest place I’ve ever stayed in my life.  Tents lining the streets right outside the motel, trash literally everywhere, crackheads it was like a third world country.
