MX sports(Davey Coombs),Speed T.V,and NBC seem to be turning are sport into flat track.Other then Glen Helen this year every track has been groomed before every moto.It seems like I have to watch the GPs any more if I want to see real motocross. MX is not supposed to be raced on freeways.MX sports says they're doing it to make mx more t.v. viewable.Higher speeds equal higher ratings they say.Outdoor mx is meant to be man and a bike against natural terrain, and not groomed every 5 min. Changing that and keeping the tracks freeways is the equivalent of not letting football players tackle. Sure there's other physical demands and skills in both sports beyond the smooth tracks and the not tackling but the rough tracks and tackling are singly the essence of both sports. The ability to survive the constant beating and excel at it at the same time is what makes you a champion.Seems to me they're trying to commercialize the sport too much. I'm ok with a little change like moving from Sunday to Saturday but the way it's going it won't be long til we see Britney Spears lip syncing at the races in between motos. I like the fact that we get same day coverage now but let's be honest the T.V.coverage isn't all that good. In a 1 hr show we get 17min of one moto and the other 43 min is commercials, interviews and BS hype.I will say the internet coverage on Allisports is the best thing since sliced bread. Thank you very much for that D.C. MX sports says smoothing the tracks out has made better racing. In my opinion that's not true. The absence of JS,RC,RV,and MA is what produced 7 different winners. Overall D.C. you rock and are a hero in my eyes just please give the dozers a day off on Saturday.

Was it pussy sh--t when McGrath and Reed skipped the Outdoors?

Maybe calling riders out anonymously is pussy sh--t?

feelnjstfine--I agree with you that flat tracking isn't easier than MX.They're two totaly different animals and both are gnarly. Flat trackers are an insane breed. Going into corners at 100+mph and pitching it sideways sometimes 3 wide is total insanity.

gsxrcr28--I have no problem puting my name behind my opinion of supercross only contracts. Real men race outdoors. Dan Lamb, Portland Or.
What about the other two questions?

Was MC and CR not men anymore because they skipped the Outdoors or just James?

MC I felt had earned the right to do whatever he wanted. At that point he was pushing 30 and already had 5 supercross titles and one outdoor title but I still didn't like it.I was all over CR when he did it. I said the same things about CR when he did it as I say about JS now. I don't like it and I think it's really bad for the sport when top shelf riders don't ride outdoors. Just my opinion.

I get what you're saying Dan.

I just think the riders should be able to ride whatever race THEY want to if they can afford it. And they don't lose their manhood because of it. JMO

Man, Steel City 1999 makes Steel City 2009 look like a GNCC almost.

I got the Alt channel this year to watch the GP's. The American riders would revolt if they had to ride those tracks.
If grooming the tracks saves one rider from a severe injury then I say DC groom the hell out of it. I like the racing and like seeing guys go fast. If keeping it rough keeps guys from going as fast and keeps the injuries down then I say DC let the tracks be.
Tell me which is safer groomed or rough?

86 honda--You don't have to get the alt channel to watch the gps.. You can go to http://freecaster.tv/MX and watch all of them live for free and the mxdn live for free as well. They also archive both motos every week and you can watch them commercial free archived usually by Monday but Tuesday at the latest. As far as rougher or smoother and what is safer I would have to say the rougher it is the safer it is. Speed is what causes a lot of injuries and if you keep the speed down you keep the injuries down. I think they should fix the faces of the jumps and some landings between motos and that's it.

Somebody on here said Hangtown was rough this year. I looked into it and found this video of Hangtown 2004. This track was so rough. Up the faces, down the landings and everywhere else is rough.

Compare that to this years hangtown event and it's no contest. 2004 is wayyyy rougher. Watch them on the site lap starting at 2:56 of the video and notice how much work was done on the track. Then notice Dungey flat tracking the 1st lap.

You can see more of the 2009 moto here--- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgwb7fLt0cM&feature=related

You realize you're comparing the third moto of the day in 2004 to the first moto of the day in 2009, right?

Nerd--They're both the second moto of the 250(lites)/125 class.. The 2nd one is from the 2nd moto speed coverage. The site lap is pre 2nd moto then it goes on to show the start of the 2nd moto You can copy and paste the link on the bottom of the video to see more of the 2nd moto. Thanks for trying to discredit me but I know the difference between the 1st and 2nd mot.Same time of day in both motos.

My mistake, but truly, I don't need to discredit you. You were put in place in the first few responses to this thread, you just didn't realize it, apparently. And I don't see any real differences in roughness between the two videos. If you do, I think you're just seeing what you want to see.

I asked you in the first response to this thread, so maybe you can answer now: How many races did you go to this year?

My viewpoint is based on what I saw at the actual races, and some of them were smoother than normal, but most of them were as rough or rougher than normal. I was there, every weekend, and have been since 2004, every weekend.

You?

As far as it not being you against anyone, well you sure did try and make it that way by including someone's name in your headline, didn't you?

Why don't you, in addition to telling us how many races you went to this year, also elaborate and tell us exactly where you see the difference in roughness in those two videos? I didn't see it.

I looked at both videos, and it's not night and day. Comparing a racing lap to a site lap, where people are going very slow, is dumb.

Look at the race footage from both. There is hardly a difference at all.

Anyone else can watch it and confirm it.

Nerd. That's why I posted the video. So everyone can have their opinion. Like you I was also there in 2004(what a great race JS and SR) and in 2009 and there seemed to be a lot more track prep in 09. I also think that 2004 was way rougher. I'm not trying to have a personal "i know more than you" pissing contest . I'm sure we both love the sport and respect all those involved yet have and are entitled to different opinions while looking at the same facts. We all know opinions are like ass holes and we all have one. That's the beauty of these forums. Thanks for expressing an interest (good or bad) in the question I posed. I will assure you though it's not a personal attack on anyone.

You know someone's trying to manipulate the facts when they're attempting to compare a sighting lap with a race lap.

Race lap to race lap, those two races look very, very similar.

So does this mean the following rumors are not true?
1. MX sports will be adding a 750 class next year
2.. Twins will be legal
3.. Harley Davidson is cranking up the old XR line to meet the "production" rule
4. Bill Werner was spotted wandering the pits at LL.
5. Look for a new Milwaukee based powerhouse MX team this year
6. TLD will be releasing a new Dave Aldana inspired "Skeleton" line of MX gear

Damm...That skeleton gear would have been sweet!

Dude, let it go! You're right!

All the people with their sanity still intact on this board, fully respect you and what you do. You have the privilege of going to every round, yet you seem to spend a lot of time arguing with the core fans of the sport.

I fully mean it when I say I have nothing but respect for you, but you always have to have the last word. Kinda like that Grendel character. It starts to get kind of ridiculous. This, and the seat hopping issue, and when I said I wasn't a k-dub fan. Granted you probably know a great deal about Motocross, but that doesn't mean your opinion is considered a fact or law.
