Privateer Teams

Since there is a question whether a rider is a privateer, What would you consider a privateer team?
Here is how I see it

Factory-Full Support from OEM.
Monster Kawasaki, Rockstar Makita Suzuki, Red Bull Honda, Yamaha, and the KTM Teams

Satellite Teams- Some Support from OEM.
Pro Circuit Kawasaki, Canidine Kawasaki, Geico Powersports Honda, Star Racing Yamaha, and Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR)

Support teams- Very Little support from OEM (HAS SEMIS)
Valli Sports, Hart and Hunnington, and Butler Brothers (BBMX), Moto concepts (possibly)

Privateer Teams-NO OEM SUPPORT
Wonder Worthog, and any other team not listed (example: Trentman Racing)

Now if it was arenacross it would be very different. This is Just for MX/SX

My 2 cents worth of what teams are Privateer and Not Privateer.

I dont believe there is any more factory support in AX, contingency is about it... and its getting thinner...

We are looking at our budget and it is looking no so good. We will be lucky to get enough to help with bikes! We never payed anyone. We paid their entry fees and everything.

It is sad about Arenacross, But our guys may do Supercross instead of arenacross. We are just waiting to hear from sponsors.

No San Manuel / Yamaha (L&M) Team?
Maybe their lower than the Privateer Teams-NO OEM SUPPORT.
If so, maybe they should race for the Privateer Points Fund in Supercross.
They might win.

We have pros coming in for next year. Amateur team is possibly folding. More money on pros. Amateur team just got our feet wet, then arenacross for the pro and we did RED BUD failed to qualify (timed) by on spot (Codi Adams). We hope for 2010 We will do a lot better!

If you don't pay your entry, or don't have to buy your own bikes, or don't drive yourself to the races, or have a mechanic you pay more than just in food and cigarettes, you can't be considered a privateer. You should then be considered a supported rider. The next time you find yourself at a supercross go check out the 50 or so riders in the "privateer" pits. Basically you have to unload your bikes, tools, and gear; then go park a mile away, They usually put you so far away from the factory and support teams that most fans don't wonder back that far... thats if you are even in the same room as the top guys.

Team Motodrive.com/Stormlakehonda.com has a huge budget from Honda this year. We have some other big sponsors we plan on announcing at a later date.

A good example of privateer team would be the CCRidergear.com team that Antonio Balbi rides. They show up with an old air stream motorhome and a tow behind enclosed trailer no bigger then the smallest car hauler probably. From what I understand the guys behind it do it all on their own dime and are awesome guys. Props to them though and congrats to Balbi for 8th in moto 2 at Steel City!

I would think PC and Geico would be considered equal to factory rides, aren't they each manufacturers official effort in that class?
