It gets colder than most people expect at night time in the winter here, so bring warm clothes.

Lots of cool stuff around LA but you need to know where you shouldn't be more importantly.

A mid day at Huntington Beach is always a great day.

Maybe a tour down at Pro Circuit also.

@slapaho thank you, this sounds like a verry good idea. Saw lot of youtube movies of that track and see some of my heroes train will be a nice extra on my trip! Thnx man

I haven't been there in years, so maybe it's not as good now, but going to Chaparral was cool when I first went.

Coming from Europe, seeing a motocross shop that big was mind blowing to me. It still blows my mind, haha!

You can travel to Fox Raceway to watch Supercross practice, or head over to Pro Circuit to look at all the championship bikes, there is always something to do between races.

But most importantly, you have to visit In and Out  multiple times while you are here.

Some of your countrymen I know can't stay away from that place when they are here.

I just spent this past summer in Zwolle, Overjissel - NL is pretty awesome !  Going back in April for Dutch Masters.

We live in Northern California for most of the year (8+ hours from LA), but when we are in the area it is always fun to drive around the Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, etc, see how the other half lives if you are into that sort of thing.  Some pretty amazing places.  You could spend half a day doing that, hit the beach to people watch (if it is sunny out), lots of good food choices.

You should definitely get a car, no way you can do a proper tour without one (try Kayak or a site that aggregates rentals to find the best deal, you can buy insurance pretty cheap if your credit card does not cover it).  Uber would be super expensive and virtually no mass transit options.  There are a ton of things to do depending on your interests (over 20 million people live in the San Diego and LA area combined).

Griffith observatory in LA is cool if for no other reason than the views from that spot.  They filmed a scene from the original Terminator there, lol

Maybe you could get a ride day in somewhere?  Going out to the desert east of San Diego could be a epic experience if you could arrange a bike and gear.

Pro practice at Pala would be fun to watch as others mentioned.  Glen Helen on Thursdays is worth a visit.  You could hit Glen Helen in the morning and swing by Chaparral (warehouse sized motorsports store) in the afternoon.  There will be some fast guys at Glen Helen even if most pros are training for supercross.

For the races I would recommend getting there early and watching practice and qualifying.  I think a monster can still gets you into the pits for free (at least it did last year).

Wikitravel.org can be a good resource for different areas you will visit.  Should be an awesome trip!

There is a ton to see there depending on if you want it to all be moto or a combination.  What do you like?  With a week in between a trip to Vegas would be cool, but again depends what you are into.

Hollywood sign and observatory

Beverly Hills and Rodeo Dr etc

Pro Circuit, Chapparral, Glen Helen, Pala

Santa Monica or Venice Beach (absolutely have to eat at C&O's Italian)

Disneyland, San Diego Zoo

Vegas

I would not stay in LA, but Anaheim area.  If it were me a trip and one night in Vegas would be worth the drive.

Any idea which day will be the best chance to see some pro's train?Never heard of in and out but googled it and I do like that kind of food so for sure Im gonna try for sure. Dutch masters is a nice event with also some MXGP riders who will join the races as a practice. In april they will race in Markelo, sweet track!

Thanks for your advice, appriciate it! I am aware I need a car so was thinking to hire one on the airport but maybe Kayak is more interesting as you suggest. Griffith observatory will be on my list to, seems to be amazing.

I was thinking of trying to ride myself but think it will be a lot of organisation and on a hired bike (which are probably not the freshed examples) and a unknown track I think it wont be wearth the costs and risk. I booked a fan fest Pass for both races sow hope to be clease to the pit area anyway. Thanks again for sharing your advice!

I will be half a mototrip but wanna see also something of the area and the culture ofcourse. I think vegas would be impressive but will take to much time go there and back which I prefer to spend on other things in the SD-LA area. A visit a one of the famous beaches and have a drink over there will be something I am planning to do. Anaheim area will be more ideal? Due to costs and travel to the stadium I assume? I will keep that in my mind. Thanks!

Staying close to the stadium is a great idea.  There are a couple nice hotels within walking distance.  I have stayed at the Embassy Suites and it's great.  It takes forever to drive anywhere there and LA is not great to stay IMO. The beaches are ok, just super expensive and then you are far from the stadium.  I cannot recommend C&O's enough to eat dinner at Venice Beach and then you are near Santa Monica as well.

It's probably not what it used to be, but we used to always stop in to Malcolm Smith MotorSports when we were racing in town...  Granted, that was 40+ years ago.  Wink

I’m N Out is THE quintessential California fast food place. You should also try some Mexican food while you’re here, look for somewhere with good al pastor or carne asada.

Can’t pass through Carlsbad without visiting the sacred ground of the former raceway. Your fellow country man Gerrit Wolsink stamped his name on that track a few times back in the 70’s. Get the rental car for sure and I’m sure some of the Vital guys will show you around their turf. I’d be one of them , but I’m north west of L.A.

I have to 2nd the suggestion for getting some good Carne Asada. Try El Indio Mexican Restaurant in San Diego. They are right near the airport and within easy walking distance of GP Motorcycles just up the street.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/El+Indio+Mexican+Restaurant+and+Cater…

Definitely check out Chaparral Motorsports, Malcolm Smith Motorsports, and or Bert's Mega Mall when in SoCal. Chaparral is really big and Bert's is absolutely huge, even by our American standards. I have a feeling it will blow you away.

If you get there early on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you are likely to see the Kawasaki and maybe Pro Circuit Teams warming up at the test track. You can park right on Knabe Road and watch from your car:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Kawasaki+test+track/@33.7982515,-117…

There is a Supercross practice track for pros only at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park. It's to the right when you pull into the property, just before the toll booth. You may see some privateers practicing there during the week:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lake+Elsinore+Motorsports+Park/@33.63…

Canadian Guy here, done a couple SoCal trips with the Family…

A1/2  with a Disneyland trip (even if you don’t have kids!).
Drop in a Chapparel, Troy Lee and Pro Circuit visit. Even sneak in a Saddleback and Glen Helen visit? We did!

 San Diego, Legoland, Carlsbad,  Midway…

Both are beautiful places, with lots of cool MX history to check out, USS Midway being a special treat 😎

SoCal is amazing, we loved it 👌

 In ‘n Out Burger? YES!

I went to A1 and Glendale in 2019 with a friend, but visited San Diego in the week in between! You should definitely visit the following places around Anaheim:
- Corona test tracks
- Los Angeles
- Venice Beach
- Old Town Murrieta
- Troy Lee designs
- Pro circuit
- Lake Elsinore SX

Around San Diego:
- Laguna Beach (take care with diving, my friend dislocated his shoulder in his first dive because he hit the ground)
- Gas lampie (famous street to go out in San Diego)

Thats about all I can think of which is cool.
Oh and yeah, don't forget to install Bumble and Hinge! hahahahah
