I'm healing up from 9 broken ribs last month on my left side. I broke 4 ribs last October on the right side. I need more rib protection obviously.

I've been looking into the RXR line of chest protectors. There are a bunch of different ones. Which one is best for rib protection?

I also looked at the Thor sentinel. It sort of wraps around under the arms some.

I had on a 661 Defender 2. The side was ripped open. I'd guess the ribs were broken from straight impact crushing my arm into them. Then the sliding motion on the ground ripped the side strap off the foam connector.

Are the any other chest protectors out there that offer good rib protection?

I'm also looking into a new Moto8 lid too if anyone is interested in moving one for a good price.

I don't think any other chest protector offers even close to the same rib protection the RXR does.

I have broken ribs 4 times with 3 different chest protectors, Acerbis makes one that has
rib protection, but I guess when you hit the ground that hard something is going to give?
Also, you might check, some sporting goods chain's sell rib protectors like the kind football players use.

My kid has belly flopped flew 4' back up and flipped and was chasing the bike before it even came to a stop. He's gone over the bars landed on his back (similiar to Reed's SX crash) and right back up. Worst was coming up short on the face of a double blowing out front tire slamming the cross bar pad (blowing out front bladder), that one he was down with the wind knocked out of him for a few minutes. He even broke the visor off on the front fender of the bike!

But just after that one I heard of a fatality with similiar accident having internal injuries. No matter how bulky or ugly people think they are it's amazing on how much they cut down on the impact to the body. They could have better side protection but it wouldn't work with the air bladders there, due to arm movement being hindered.

After 2 years of hard abuse and my kid breaking 80lbs it's about time for a new one.

If you have broken ribs and 2 elbows, you are sure to re-injure your ribs again. Regardless what you wear. Bracing your fall with your arms is what probably broke your ribs in the first place.

Well, I did all that bouncing around 5, 10, 15 years ago. Now, I'm 36. This last injury is the first time I've ever ridden in an ambulance. Having my wife, who I dearly love, hear "he's in bad shape, and we're not sure he's going to make it" sort of takes the fun out of trophies.

I'm going to tone it down and just ride something ike 50% for a while. Like five years or so. But, I need a chest pro for falling. You never know what you're in for when you get on the bike. I'll still jump the big hits, just not in traffic like I used to.

I've got a friend that thinks he's still got a RXR he isn't using. I'm gonna buy it this weekend if he's got it and see how that works out.

Anybody got a hook up on moto 8s?? I've got a couple Arais but one needs to be shelved and I think I wanna try a bell. It's been a while but I used to like their fit and I really like the look of the moto 8.

rallendude, glad to here your ok. I am 46 and a vet racer. I have "toned it down" also and just had knee surgery. I am getting huge heat from my wife to hang it up. Been racing on and off since I was 11 so even at my age it is real hard to walk away from. I just keep buying more safety gear. Good luck

He just turned 12 and after 3 years of moto only had 7 stitches in his right ring finger. It exploded like a grape when the lever pinched it on a fall. Other than that I'm still counting my blessings and thankful for no broken bones or other injuries.

The flu looks like it'll be the thing to keep him off the bike the longest (almost 8 days now). That reminds me all us older dudes need to really think about the flu shot this year. Oh and he's now 74lbs after this damn flu!

"LIMITS???"

This is mx goofy..............limits.

Seriously, one was a freak thing, bike spit sideways in a rutted low area leading up the face of a jump. I was up on the bars on the gas and when it did it just spit me over the bars before I even knew it was sideways. I was plotting on a pass for the lead.

Similar circumstance here, plotting on a pass for the lead but whilst I was in the air over a jump the other guy decided my line was the prefered line. I guess I might should have seen that one coming really but, hind sight is 20/20.

i've tore up the ribs a couple times as well........ after the last broken ribs/sternum/punctured lung/bruised heart ordeal i headed to the local sporting goods store and the hockey section... you can find all kinds of good rib protection there, but it's heavy, it's hot, and looks like crap under a jersey.... but if your ribs feel anything like mine did and you still wanna ride, take real protection over looking cool any day....

btw... it took over 5 years before i was comfortable sleeping on my stomach after that one.....
