Rode the standard KX450 2023 in the fall. I preferred my own 2020 YZ450F, so i would defenitely choose the Yamaha. Riders who prefer a more tame/"slow"-feeling 450 might however prefer the KX because of the engine charasteristic.

The stock KX may not have the grunt your YZ has, but in no way does feel tame or slow.  It’s got awesome throttle response and revs great.  The SR builds on that in spades.  The SR will also hold its value given its limited availability.

Compared to the YZ it feels tame, that is my experience. And like i say that is not necessarily a bad thing.

As for the resale value, i doubt it will hold that much better value. An all new KX450 is on the way and should be available in the next 12 months and the 2023 SR will be an old platform.

Only happens with solid mount / FMF and the SR comes with a PC. Won’t be an issue

That’s what I’m worried about. If I buy the 23 n they come out with a new bike in 24 I’m gonna take a major hit. I don’t hold bikes more than a yr. The Kawi sounds like a great all around bike!

$2K off is there normal incentive. During covid '20's where going for $7K+ tax before the market went shitzoid. When the '19 came out '18's- $6K. Just my luck I bought a week before that dropped, lol.

This would be my thoughts. The Yamaha is new, but all development is going into THAT platform. While the KX is great, it will be changed next year and we ALL know how that works out. We see something new and shiny and we want it. Besides, when new Yamahas are at the track and then the new Kawi starts popping up and you are on the older Kawi you start itching for a new steed

Thats a non issue now, and fyi the SR also comes with a re enforced exhaust bracket, that being said. 2 great bikes to choose from. Or snag a leftover 2022 yzf or kawy. Save a good bit. Make your own.

I have owned numerous Kawis over the years of all size and models.  I used to love Kawi but a couple of years ago I vowed to never buy another one.  They are just very cheaply built in my opinion.  I am pretty careful about maintenance, but everything fell apart faster than on Yamahas or KTMs, not just the little stuff, but engine, head, clutch and transmission parts as well.  You see it in the resale value which historically has been pretty bad, at least where I live.

I have a friend who is the service manager at a large multi-line shop that has told me for years that Kawis are the most unreliable bikes on the market (and he rides a KX 450).  Anyway, my 2 cents....

It's just the reputation. YZ250F cam chains are more common to fail, but everyone thinks there reliable thanks to the old 5 valve engine.

Not to mention the 21 yz450 has a weak rod problem .
