Any leads on one or when the next batch will be released?

I put my cone valves on today. You can definitely feel the extra weight in the front. I need to find a set of 52mm cone valves I guess.

Is there any difference between the 23 300SX and XC for the ignition? I verified today with local ktm dealer there is no difference in compression between the xc and sx (unlike previous years), what I can’t verify is if the ecu is different. It’s a different part number between the xc and sx but that could be because the xc accepts accessories lights etc. Anyone know?

I don’t think the XC is designed to accept lights or other accessories. It doesn’t produce very much power from the stator, that supposedly is the same as the sx. Unlike the old XC bikes. Sorry that’s not an answer about the ecu.

Thanks that is helpful. I guess I always thought the sx had more aggressive ignition timing and just trying to verify that on the new 23.

This guy states several pistons have failed at around 50 hours.  Sounds like a Vertex issue.  Wonder if they had a bad batch of pistons?

That’s a different motor.

So has anyone rode an XC back to back with the SX300? Im trying to find out if the ignition / mapping on the sx is more aggressive like past years. Anybody know? Many thanks.

Yes, I own both.
It’s kinda hard to say, with the SX being a 5-speed, the delivery is just different. But… if there is a difference in the mapping, it’s not much.

Thanks, you’re the first I know of who’s ridden both! So if you rode Moto 95 percent of the time I’d be guessing you would take the 300sx? Power delivery is more suited to Moto on the 300sx given the 5speed? I have a 23 tx300 that I love but the reality is I almost ride Moto exclusively so thinking about just getting the 300sx.

Yes, I’d get the SX, if you ride the track most of the time.

There is quite a bit of difference in the feel of the two bikes. The old chassis feels long and low in the rear to me and took some time to get used to again. The 21 corners slower but is not any more stable that the 23. Imo the 23 chassis is hands down better, it’s way more precise has way better front wheel traction, can turn under the 21 all while having the same stability.

The 21 motor is hands down better than this new fuel injected motor. It’s crazy to me how great the reviews are from this 23 motor when, to me at least, the older 300’s are simply better. It’s not a huge difference but on the 21 I can easily pull 3rd in sections that the 23 didn’t have a chance of pulling 3rd. I could ride the entire track on the 21 in third and was shifting back and forth from 2nd to 3rd on 4 different sections of track. The 21 is just a more powerful motor with better roll on.

Between the chassis and motor though the 23 is a much better bike to race and ride. I’d rank the 21 chassis as a 6/10 and the 23 as a 10/10. I’d rank the 21 motor as 10/10 and the 23 as a 8/10. I really hope we’ll be able to get some tunes to make the new motor hit harder, then this 23 would be perfect to me.

do you have a 300 kit on your sx250 2021 ? is it stock 300 kit ?

It’s was the factory ktm kit that twisted originally assembled for me, no porting though. After 60 hours I put a piston in it that I bought from slavens, I matched their base gaskets and called it good. Both bikes rip!

I was reading through the manual and looking at included parts the other day. I noticed that KTM included 2 different throttle cams for these bikes. Manual states they come with the gray, the black one opens the valve more quickly. Has anyone swapped out yet to see if there is much difference?

I believe the manual is wrong and the 4stks come with the different cams. My 23 250XC did not come with any cams.

We have both a 250sx and 300sx. Both bikes have come with the cam's which made me look at the manuals. i find it interesting that KTM provides the different cam's. I ran the G2 quick turn on my previous bike(yz250f) and it was a noticeable difference compared to stock.

I got jipped then, my bike also came with a silver rear sprocket instead of black like all other 23 models I've seen. I don't even have to wonder why, COVID!

Can you post photos of the clearance of the fatty pipe in relation to the radiators?

Thanks!  I have bulletproof guards for my bike and had planned on getting that pipe but saw a guy on Facebook that it wasn’t even close to fitting. Yours seems like they would clear just fine.

I bought a set of Bulletproof guards for my XC which had a Gnarly pipe and the pipe hits on both sides.
I had one of the first pipes and sent the pics to Bulletproof Designs so they’d know that their guards don’t work with the FMF pipes. They are going to redesign a set to fit, but I’m not sure how long it’ll be…

There is a lot of unnecessary material on the guards that can be removed to clear the pipe.

Yeah the BPD guys are local to me and I know they also bought some pipes to try but I haven't heard back yet how they will work. And sometimes the fitment of the FMF pipes isn't super consistent in my experience.

Looks like they have the lower inlet tubes of the radiators angling up now rather than coming off at a 90*. Will definitely help some of the off road guys from smashing that tube when the radiator gets pushed into the engine in a crash.

It is a Total new design for 2023 and that hose is the same on all 125-450 SX and SX-F models
