One thing that makes the xc not perfect for moto is the gear ratios, a little to wide for some situations like in between jumps in tech rhythm sections, I’m assuming the SX gearbox would be better. On a pure outdoor track I feel the xc is actually great, (like Cahuilla) but Palas main track has some sections where the gearing makes it hard to be in the meat of the power to clear some jumps easily.  I will say I haven’t ridden the main since adding the pipe and silencer and vented plate, that lets the 300 pull quite a bit farther.
I will also have to say I bought the xc because I needed a trail bike but it’s so fun on the moto track I haven’t ridden my moto bike. But I did ride my buddies 350 on Saturday and decided I should sell mine lol.
What do you feel the 350 did better than the 300sx?

The tranny is definitely a lot different, although 3rd is very similar, between them.
I have the Gnarly on my XC and the Fatty on my SX, not sure how different they are from each other to be honest.
but my 350 was so dialed in and I was so use to it.
The faster jumps like the bigger step up in the back is a non-issue, it’s only the jumps that require more timing, that gave me trouble, trying to get “my timing” figured out on how much throttle to use.

I agree it’s takes a few hours to get your timing figured out coming off a 350.

I had a couple of Ronnie Mac moments at Cahuilla on the top table/ finish line jump. Caught me so off guard, had no time to react. Lol “Boner Air”

would adding 1 tooth to the rear sprocket help the XC?

Yes I did.

No need to remove the subframe, they made it way easier on the ‘23’s to swap them out

anything special to note or simply take seat, side panels and rear fender off and it should come out easily.

Tank, seat, seat, side plates and then remove the lower subframe bolts. Loosen the top ones and then loosen the air boot.

pivot the subframe up and tighten the top bolts. The rest is easy…

BTW- put some grease in the swing arm pivot, while you can, there was barely any grease on the bearings.

I like the gearing. Another tooth would make it worse, IMO

I’m going to have to adapt and figure it out.

I added a FMF fatty and Ti2.1 and it picked up everywhere it feels. I haven’t been able to ride it much as the weather sucks and my track is a mud hole. It does feel like it’s on the rich side, runs great but if I putt it at all it seems to start to load up now where it didn’t before.  At some point when the weather cooperates, I need to do a good long pull and check the plug.   Its also went from 50-60 to 30’s now.   I hate winter.

I realize you said you were a vet/sr A guy, but maybe you are just too used to the 4 stroke.

Maybe adjust your position a little farther forward over the front than your muscle memory likes?

Okay great, seat, tank and side plates, lower subframe bolts removed? Just loosen the bolts to the top subframe and then loosen the airboot but not remove.

Yeah, that’s definitely part of it. But I was riding a 150 and 250 2-strokes a couple years ago and never felt this imbalance. But this 300 has a midrange unlike any other 2-stroke in be ever ridden.

No doubt I’ll have to adjust my body position to help the issue, I really want to look be this bike, as much as I love my XC300.

I have the FMF Fatty and 2.1 on mine too, but no sign of any richness

I got some wheel spacers from Bulletproof Designs and they are local to me so I picked some up today.  They popped right into my wheels with no need to change the seal.

Are your wheels stock or aftermarket?

They are Moose Racing but they replicate OEM.

Just ordered a factory fatty and powercore for mine. I don't understand why the new FMF powercores are so long. I might end up returning it running stock. Or cutting it... i have just run across a thread about cutting them in the tech section.

The ti-powercore is way shorter than the regular powercore, but also way more expensive.

Just put an FMF sticker on the stock one.

Thats what i am gathering. Which makes no sense to me. Shouldn't they be the same... one Ti and one Alu?

I have the fatty with the Ti shorty, it’s about two inches longer than the stock silencer. I was talking to Danny LaPorte at the track, he helped with the development of the 300 stuff at FMF and told me they just made a lot more power with the longer silencer so that’s how it ended up. I tend to believe him because my bike runs way better with the FMF stuff on it.
I just wish the shorty had a removable spark arrestor.

You would think. I'm not sure why they made the aluminum version look like a bazooka.

Just picked up my new 300 from Clinton Cty Motorsports.  I think they have a few more coming in.

I guess I'm missing something here...Rear brake tap technique doesn't somehow work with the 300SX?
